యెహెఙ్కేలు   37:12-14

రోమా 8:8-11

యోహాను 11:1-45

ఈనాటి దివ్య పఠనాలు మరణం తరువాత జీవముంటుంది అనే అంశం గురించి తెలియజేస్తున్నాయి. ఏసుప్రభు యొక్క శరీరం యొక్క పునరుద్ధానముకు దగ్గరవుతున్న సమయంలో తల్లి శ్రీ సభ మనం కూడా అంతిమ దినమున పునరుద్దానం అవుతాము అని సత్యంను తెలియజేస్తుంది.

మరణించిన వారు మరల బ్రతకటం చాలా కష్టం ఈ విషయం మనం నమ్మలేము కూడా, కానీ ఈనాటి మొదటి పఠనం మరియు సువిషేశ పట్టణం మరణించిన వారికి నిత్యజీవం ఉంటుంది అని తెలియజేస్తున్నాయి.

క్రైస్తవుల యొక్క మరణం తరువాత వచ్చే జీవితం పునర్జన్మ కాదు ఎందుకంటే క్రైస్తవుల యొక్క విశ్వాసం ప్రకారం మనకు పునర్జన్మ లేదు.

మన యొక్క మరణంతో ఈ భూలోక జీవితం అంతం అవుతుందేమో కానీ నాశనం అవటం లేదు.

ఈనాటి మొదటి పఠనం లో యెహెఙ్కేలు  ప్రవక్త ద్వారా దేవుడు ఎండిన ఎముకలకు ప్రవచనం ద్వారా నూతన జీవమును ప్రసాదించిన విధానంను చదువుకుంటున్నాము.

యెహెఙ్కేలు  ప్రవక్తను దేవుడు ఎండిన ఎముకలు ఉన్న లోయ వద్దకు తీసుకొని అక్కడ ఉన్న అస్థికలకు ప్రవచనం చెప్పమని ఆజ్ఞాపించారు.

బానిసత్వంలో ఉన్న ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలకు ఇది ఒక కష్టతరమైన సమయం, నిరాశలో ఉన్న సమయం, అదేవిధంగా జీవితం మీద ఆశలు వదిలేసుకున్న సమయం, దేవుడు మమ్ము విడిచిపెట్టారు అని భావించిన ఒక సమయం.

వారి యొక్క విశ్వాసమును కోల్పోయారు, అలాగే ఉన్నటువంటి ఏకైక దేవాలయంలో కోల్పోయారు, వారి యొక్క గుర్తింపు కూడా కోల్పోయారు వారిలో దేవుని యొక్క కొరత కనపడింది. దేవుడు మనతో లేరనే భావన వచ్చింది అలాంటి సందర్భంలో యెహెఙ్కేలు ప్రవక్త ఒక ఆశ కలిగిన సందేశం అందజేస్తున్నారు. అది ఏమిటంటే దేవుడు బానిసత్వంలో ఉన్న వారిని దేవుడు బయటకు తీసుకొని వస్తారు. ప్రభు అంటున్నారు నేను నా ఆత్మను మీలో ఉంచి మీరు జీవించినట్లు చేయుదును మీరు మీ దేశమున వశించినట్లు చేయుదురు అని అన్నారు - యెహెఙ్కేలు 37:14.

దేవుని యొక్క ఆత్మ మనలో ఉంచుతారు అనే వాక్యం మనకు దేవుడు మొదటి జీవం పోసిన విషయంలో గుర్తుకు వస్తుంది.

దేవుడు ఆదామును మట్టి నుండి చేసిన సందర్భంలో దేవుడు మానమని యొక్క ముక్కు రంధ్రంలో తన యొక్క శ్వాసనుదారు తన యొక్క ఆత్మను మానమునులో ఉంచి తొలి సృష్టి చేశారు - ఆది 2-7.

ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలు కూడా దేవునికి విరుద్ధంగా జీవించారు మరొకసారి తన యొక్క ఆత్మను ఇచ్చుట ద్వారా వారిలో క్రొత్త జీవం వస్తుంది.

ఈ మొదటి పఠనం లో  మనం గమనించవలసిన విషయాలు ఏమిటంటే దేవునికి అసాధ్యమైనది ఏదియు లేదని అలాగే దైవ భక్తులకు ఉన్నటువంటి శక్తి.

దేవుడు చనిపోయిన వారికి సైతం జీవం ప్రసాదించే గొప్పవారు.

దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు ప్రవసించగానే ఎండిన ఎముకలలో సైతం జీవం వచ్చింది. ప్రభువు యొక్క వాక్కుకు ఉన్నటువంటి శక్తి అలాంటిది.

1.ఆయన యొక్క వాక్కు సృష్టిని చేసింది - ఆది 1-2 అధ్యాయాలు 

2. దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు పుట్టించే వాక్కు - లూక 8:11

- దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు మనలో జీవం పుట్టిస్తుంది

- దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు మనలో హృదయ పరివర్తనం కలిగిస్తుంది

- దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు మనలో విశ్వాసంను పుట్టిస్తుంది

- దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు మనలో ప్రేమను పుట్టిస్తుంది

3. దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు మనల్ని నడిపిస్తుంది - కీర్తన 119-105

- దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు మనల్ని జీవంకు నడిపిస్తుంది

- దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు మనల్ని సత్యం వైపుకు నడిపిస్తుంది

- దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు మనల్ని పుణ్యం చేయుటకు మంచిగా జీవించుటకు నడిపిస్తుంది

4. దేవుని యొక్క వాక్కు అయస్కాంత వాక్కు మనల్ని ఆయన వైపుకు మరలుచుకుంటుంది.

ప్రభువు యొక్క వాక్కు శక్తివంతమైనది కాబట్టి ప్రవశించగానే ఎండిన ఎముకలు సైతం జీవం పోసుకున్నాయి.

ఈనాటి రెండవ పఠనం లో  పౌలు గారు మనందరం కూడా ఆత్మానుసారంగా జీవించమని కోరుతున్నారు.

ఎవరైతే శరీరానుసారంగా జీవిస్తారో వారు దేవుని సంతోష పెట్టలేరు అని అంటారు.

సృష్టి ప్రారంభం నుండి శరీరానుసారంగా జీవించిన వారు దేవుని సంతృప్తి పరచలేదు ఎందుకంటే శరీరం కోరేది దేవుడు కొరరు.

అందుకే పౌలు గారు గలతీయులకు రాసిన లేఖలో 5:16-26 పలుకుతుంటారు శరీరం కోరునది ఆత్మ కోరదని.

ఆత్మానుసారంగా జీవిస్తే దేవుని సంతృప్తి పరచగలం, ఏసుప్రభు యొక్క ఆత్మ మన యందు ఉన్నచో మనం శరీరానుసారంగా జీవించెము ఆత్మానుసారంగా జీవిస్తాం.

శరీరానుసారంగా జీవించేవారు ఈ లోకమే శాశ్వతం అని భావిస్తారు, అందుకనే ఈ చీకటి పనులు చేస్తారు. ప్రభు యొక్క పునరుద్దానంలో భాగస్తులుగా జీవించాలంటే మనం ఆత్మానుసారంగా జీవించాలి.

మన జీవితాలను ఒక్కసారి పరిశీలించుకోవాలి ఎందుకంటే ఎక్కువసార్లు మనం శరీరానుసారంగా జీవించుటకు ఇష్టపడుతుంటాం. దేవుని యొక్క ఆత్మ మన యెడల ఉన్నచో దేవుని యొక్క ప్రణాళికల ప్రకారం మనం జీవిస్తుంటాం.

ఈనాటి సువిశేష పట్టణంలో ఏసుప్రభు మరణించిన లాజరుకు జీవమును ప్రసాదించిన అంశంను చదువుకుంటున్నాం, చనిపోయిన ఆయనను  బ్రతికించుట ద్వారా దేవుడు తన యొక్క పునరుద్ధాన అంశమును కూడా ముందుగానే తెలియజేస్తున్నారు.

యోహాను గారి యొక్క సువిశేషం లో ఉన్న మొదటి 12 అధ్యాయాలను book of signs అనగా దేవుని యొక్క సజ్జనాలు, గుర్తులు, చిహ్నాలు అని పిలుస్తారు. ఎందుకంటే యేసుప్రభువు ఇచ్చిన ఏడు గుర్తులు ఆయన మెస్సయ్య అని తెలియజేస్తున్నాయి:

1. నీటిని ద్రాక్షారసంగా మార్చుట - యోహాను 2:1-12

2. ఉద్యోగి కుమారునికి స్వస్థత నిచ్చుట - యోహాను 4:46-54

3. కోనేటి వద్ద స్వస్థత నిచ్చుట - యోహాను 5:1-11

4. 5000 మందికి ఆహారం ఇచ్చుట - యోహాను 6:1-15

5. నీతి మీద నడుచుట - యోహాను 6:15-21

6. గుడ్డివానికి చూపునిచ్చుట - యోహాను 9:1-12

7. చనిపోయిన లాచరును బ్రతికించుట - యోహాను 11

ఇవన్నీ కూడా ఏసుప్రభు మెస్సయా అనే అంశమును తెలియజేస్తున్నాయి.

యూదుల యొక్క నమ్మకం ఏమిటంటే చనిపోయిన మూడు రోజుల తర్వాత ఆత్మ శరీరంకు దగ్గరలోనే ఉంటుంది, తరువాత అదే శరీరం నుండి దూరం అవుతుందని అయితే లాజరు చనిపోయి నాలుగు రోజులు అవుతుంది, మరి ఆ సమయానికి శరీరం నుండి ఆత్మ దూరం అవ్వాలి అయితే ఇక్కడ ప్రభువు మార్తమ్మ విశ్వాసమును బలపరుస్తున్నారు. దేవునికి అసాధ్యమైనది ఏదీ లేదు అని తెలుపుచున్నారు.

మార్తమ్మ యేసు ప్రభువును మెస్సయ అని అంగీకరించింది అందుకే ఇంకా ఆమె యొక్క విశ్వాసమును, నమ్మకమును బలపరుచుటకు ప్రభువు ఆమెతో అంటున్నారు, "నేనే పునరుద్దానమును జీవమును అని".

ఆయన జీవమును ఇస్తారు అని మార్తముకు తెలిపారు. లాజరును మృత్యువు నుండి లేపుట  ద్వారా మనం మూడు విషయాలు గ్రహించాలి.

1. లాజరును సజీవంగా లేపటం ద్వారా మృత్యువును జయించగల శక్తి తనకున్నదని ఏసుప్రభు రుజువు చేశారు. అంటే సైతాను స్వాధీనంలో ఉన్న మృత్యువును జయిస్తే సైతానును కూడా చేయించినట్లే అవుతుంది. ఈ సందర్భంగా యేసు ప్రభువు సైతానును ఎదుర్కొని మృత్యు  సంఖ్యలను ఛేదించి లాజరుకు పునర్జీవం ప్రసాదించారు.

2. ఏసు తన మరణం కూడా జయిస్తారు త్వరలో అని ప్రభువు అక్కడి వారికి తెలిపారు.

3. లాజరుకు తిరిగి భౌతిక జీవితాన్ని ప్రసాదించడం ద్వారా మనకు నిత్య జీవితాన్ని ప్రసాదించగలడని రుజువు అవుతుంది. అందుకే ప్రభువు అంటున్నారు జీవం ఉండగా నన్ను విశ్వసించు వారు మరణించిన ను జీవిస్తారు అని పలికారు యేసుప్రభు తన యొక్క పరిచర్యలో మరణించిన;

- యాయీరు కుమార్తెకు జీవం ప్రసాదించారు

-నాయీను వితంతువు యొక్క కుమారుడ్ని కూడా జీవంతో లేపారు

-అదేవిధంగా ఈనాటి సువిశేషములో  ఏసుప్రభువు లాజరుకు పునర్జీవం  ప్రసాదించారు.

ఏసుప్రభుకు లాజరు అంటే చాలా ఇష్టం, అందుకే ఆయన సమాధి వద్దకు వచ్చారు. వాస్తవానికి ఏసు ప్రభువు ఒక్క మాట పలికినా చాలు లాజరు జీవవంతుడై లేచేవాడు, కానీ ప్రభువు అలా చేయలేరు ఎందుకంటే ఆయన కూడా మానవుల యొక్క బాధలలో పాలుపంచుకుంటున్నారు.

ఏసుప్రభు కూడా లాజరు మరణం కు చాలా బాధపడ్డారు ఎందుకంటే ఆయన లాజరును ప్రేమించారు - 11:5

ప్రభు యొక్క దృష్టిలో మరణం అనేది ఒక నిద్రయే, అందుకనే లాజరు మరణించినప్పటికీ ఆయన నిద్రిస్తున్నారు అని పలికారు 11:11 అంతిమ దినమున వారు జీవంతో లేపబడుతారు అని తెలిపారు.

మన యొక్క సమాధులలో ఉండే మృతదేహాలు కూడా నిద్రిస్తున్నాయని అర్థం అందుకని మన యొక్క విశ్వాస సంగ్రహంలో చెబుతున్నాం శరీరం యొక్క ఉత్సానమును విశ్వసిస్తున్నామని కాబట్టి ఈ మృతులు కూడా అంతిమ దినమున ప్రభు యొక్క పునరుద్దానంలో భాగస్తులు అవుతారు.

లాజరు యొక్క మరణం ప్రభువును మహిమ పరచుట కొరకే అందుకనే ఏసుప్రభు ఆయన మరణ వార్త విన్నప్పటికీ ఇంకా అక్కడే ఉన్నారు - యోహాను 11:6

ఏసుప్రభువు  వార్తను వినగానే ఆయన వెంటనే తన మిత్రుని వద్దకు వస్తాడని అందరూ భావించారు. కానీ ఆయన అలా చేయలేదు ఎందుకంటే మూడు రోజుల తర్వాత కూడా మృతులు జీవిస్తారు అని తెలుపుటకు ప్రభు వెంటనే రాలేదు.

- యాయీరు కుమార్తెను సమాధి చేయకముందే ప్రభువు జీవం ప్రసాదించారు

- నయీను వితంతువు కుమారుడిని కూడా సమాధి చేయకముందే జీవం ఇచ్చారు.

- కేవలం లాజరును మాత్రమే సమాధి చేసిన తరువాత జీవంతో లేపారు. అది ఆయన పునరుద్ధంకు ఒక సూచన. 

- మరణించిన వారికి ప్రభువు కేవలం జీవమును మాత్రమే ప్రసాదించారు మరల వారు కొన్ని సంవత్సరంలకు మరణిస్తారు కానీ ప్రభువు యొక్క శరీర పునరుద్దానం శాశ్వతం.

- పాత నిబంధన గ్రంథంలో కూడా ఏలియా, ఎలీషా ప్రవక్తలు చనిపోయిన బిడ్డలకు మరల జీవమును ప్రసాదించారు. ఏసుప్రభు యొక్క శరీరం యొక్క పునరుత్థానం మనం కూడా పునరుత్థానం అవుతాము అని తెలుపుతుంది.

క్రైస్తవులం గా మనం మరణం అంటే భయపడుతుంటాం కానీ మరణం తరువాత దేవునితో జీవితం ఉందనే సత్యమును మర్చిపోతున్నాము.

ఏసుప్రభు అన్నారు గోధుమ గింజ భూమిలో పడి నశించినంత వరకు అట్లే ఉండును కానీ అది నశిస్తే జీవించును అని - యోహాను 12:24

- మనం కూడా పాపముకు మరణిస్తేనే కొత్త జీవితంకు జన్మనిస్తాం. మనలో ఉండే పాపం కోపం, అసూయ, పగ, స్వార్థం అన్ని  మరణిస్తేనే మంచిగా క్రొత్తదనం ఉంటుంది.

ఈనాటి సువిషేశ పఠనం లో తోమాసుగారి యొక్క దర్శనమును కూడా చూస్తున్నాం ఏసు ప్రభువు కొరకు మరణించాలి అనే తపన ఆయనలో కనబడుతుంది. అందుకే రండి  మనము కూడా వెళ్లి లాజరుతో మరణించడం అని అన్నారు.

బహుశా ప్రభువు తనకు కూడా మరలా జీవంను ప్రసాదిస్తాడని విశ్వసించి ఉండవచ్చు.

మార్తమ్మ యొక్క గొప్ప విశ్వాసమును కూడా ఈ సువిశేషంలో మనం గమనిస్తున్నాం ఆమె విశ్వసించినది కాబట్టి ఏసుప్రభువు అద్భుతం చేశారు.

ఆమె నమ్మకం భారం మొత్తం కూడా ఏసుప్రభు మీదనే ఉంచింది అందుకే దీవించబడినది తన యొక్క తమ్ముని జీవంతో పొందగలిగినది.

లాజరును జీవంతో లేపుట ద్వారా ప్రభువుకు మరణం మీద శక్తి ఉందని తెలుపుచున్నారు, అక్కడ ఉన్న వారి యొక్క విశ్వాసమును బలపరుస్తున్నారు.

- ఏసుప్రభు పిలవగానే ప్రకృతి ఆయన మాట విన్నది.

- ప్రభువు పిలవగానే చనిపోయిన వారు జీవంతో లేచారు.

- గాలి అలలు ఆయన మాటలు విన్నాయి

- దయ్యములు ఆయన మాట విన్నాయి

- అనారోగ్యములు ఆయన మాట విన్నాయి

ఎందుకంటే ఆయన మాట శక్తివంతమైనది కాబట్టి మరణం తరువాత జీవితం ఉందని గ్రహించి ఆత్మానుసారంగా దైవవాక్కును అనుసరిస్తూ మంచి జీవితం జీవిస్తూ పరలోకం పొందుదాం.

The Plan of God & The Consent of Virgin Mary

We celebrate today The Solemnity of Annunciation of the Lord in this time of Lent, preparing for the Lord's death and Resurrection which bestow upon the salvation of our souls. It is in fact good to be reminded of the beginnings of the coming of the Savior. We are in a time of fear, uncertainty and darkness as regards our lives but with prayer, fasting and almsgiving we are preparing for the Joy of Resurrection and Transformation of our lives. This feast reminds us that we need not live in sorrow and emptiness because God has initiated the definite path of salvation through the plan of sending Jesus Christ. This is what we celebrate today, the concrete beginnings of the Salvation of Humanity.

First Reading:

In the first reading, the King Ahaz has found favour with God. The King was offered a sign by God but he refused to test God. This shows the trust the king has towards God. he did not need proof of belief. That was the reason he found favour with God. then God himself decided to give a sign, a sign so significant to not only to the king but also to the whole of humanity. The sign was:'' the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son,and shall name him Emmanuel, which means God is with us!" The text is traditionally considered as the prophecy of the birth of Christ. This has come true in today’s Gospel.

Gospel :

In the Gospel, Mary perfectly fits the prophecy of Isaih in the first reading. She has also found favour with God. the Angel Gabriel entered the house and greeted with the words of God "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you." This denotes the singular privilege before God, her special dignity and honour. She was brought up in faith and obedience towards God’s commandments. And later in the conversation also it is very clear to us of her faith, obedience and humble nature. That’s why she has found favour with God.

Rejoice in the midst of Fear:

She was the first one to announce the plan of God, that is to dwell among us and save humanity. When she heard it naturally she was troubled but was told not to be afraid. We can see that at the end of the conversation with the Angel Mary was moved from fear to acceptance of God’s will. She has accepted God's word, will to bear in her womb. This indeed calls for rejoicing for it is a wonderful moment not only to Mary but for all of us, because God is with us alway but now through this annunciation is going with us in concrete human form through Mary.

We are also in the midst of fears, struggles, poverty, sickness, insecurities, and doubts but God says to us not to be afraid for He is with us.

It also reminds us that :

The definitive promise of God’s plan to salvation and establishment of His kingdom

The definitive “Yes'' of Virgin Mary to the plan of the Father. (We are reminded here of her humility, obedience, docility and Motherhood of God and Man)

With this single “Yes” God was physically united with humanity and the time of definitive salvation has begun. This was free, loving, humble and obedient consent / Yes to God.

This is what we are going to celebrate this Lenten and Easter seasons.as it is said in the second reading in Hebrews, that Jesus came to do the will of the Father not to sacrifice animals for the atonement of the sins but to offer Himself once and for all.

As we celebrate this glorious solemnity, calls for our faith that it must be celebrated, lived and rejoice then we will find favour with God. Oftentimes we strive for God’s favours and signs for our belief. We are invited today to remain and listen to the word of God like Mary and king Ahaz. The holy men and women in today’s readings as well as in the scriptures in any given situation listened to God’s word and followed His will. That’s why they blessed abundantly.

The feast of annunciation invites us to not only listen but saying “Yes” like Mary freely, humbly, obediently and with faith to the will of the Lord in our everyday activities because of which we can today continue to bring forth and manifest Jesus through us to the world. We struggle in our lives to say Yes to God’s call to listen, believe and obey. Let us offer ourselves and pray for God’s grace.

Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.

May it be done to me according to your word." (Luke 1:38)

“Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will” (Psalm 40:9)

Faithfulness amidst Hostility

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, free to express one’s opinion but should not expect others to go along with that of their opinion. However there is with regard to life and values, an eternal Truth and Law inscribed by God which no one can alter for one’s accommodation. This is where the difference arises between Godly and ungodly people. The Godly uphold the eternal Truth and Law while the ungodly converts to suit oneself and force upon others the same.

Hostility towards Faithful

In today’s first reading, the ungodly people consider that they are good,virtuous, and even think theirs is the best approach towards life and values, so others have to follow and learn from them. Those who do not go by their ideologies, they are hostile towards them, especially people of faith in God.

They begin by saying, ‘Let us lie in wait for the virtuous person’. They continue to say, “the very sight of him weighs our spirits down” and “ he annoys us and opposes our way of life”. They conclude by saying, ‘Let us condemn him to a shameful death’.

They resent others' goodness, opinion and behaviour. It’s a different life as opposed to ungodly

They even resort to condemnation, threatening and even to the extremity of killing.

This came true in Jesus life, those who could not stand the sight of him, condemned, mocked and crucified Jesus. It so happened down the centuries to the followers of Jesus, whom we call as Martyrs.

Hostility towards Jesus

In today’s Gospel, there is a growing hostility towards Jesus. The leaders were trying to arrest and kill him. What is the reason that so much hostility is growing against Jesus? He in fact came to save, to give life and life abundance. He is just, innocent and good but why is this violent attitude of the authorities against Jesus.

Even today also, we come across this kind of people hostility towards faithful, condemning, mocking God, resorting to cruelty, torture, and even to the point of killing them. There are individuals, governments who accelerate despising Christians and intimidation towards them. They think by doing this in fact doing right but they are misled.

Answer / Response : Faithfulness

Despite all these, Jesus was faithful to the mission. The unfavourable environment did not deter him from fulfilling his responsibility. So the message of the day is that we need to continue to trust in God and remain faithful to our calling and our life even if the environment is not supportive and remains hostile. Though we may be discouraged but We need to counter witness to the prevailing values and ideologies of the world, of course we will be resented, ridiculed, and attacked with violence. It was predicted by Jesus himself, no surprises. Jesus trusted Father, let us put our trust in Jesus and we will experience his support.

Sometimes a way seems right, but the end of it leads to death! (Proverbs 14:12)

Blessed is the man who perseveres in temptation, for when he has been proved he will receive the crown of life that he promised to those who love him. (James 1:12)

He has success in store for the upright, is the shield of those who walk honestly, Guarding the paths of justice, protecting the way of his faithful ones (Proverbs 2:7-8)

Generally speaking, whenever we feel hurt, upset and sick our family and friends try to comfort us with their presence and encouraging words in order to make us feel better. Though it may not totally change everything but assures us the best that everything will be good soon.

Today’s first reading promises us that God is there to comfort us when we are in need, worry and sorrow. God is always with us to make things better for us even if we feel dry. His presence assures us better days for us. He promises that he will not forget.

God promises to the people of Israel that He heard their cry, saw their sorrows and sufferings. He promised that he is with them always, he will lead and guide them to the springs of living water. Therefore, it is a time of rejoicing and celebration for he is going to restore the land, bring freedom to prisoners, bring light to those in darkness, grant fertile land and water.

But the people are still unconvincing and thinking that God had abandoned and forgotten them. They are wrong. He never forgets because he is loving and compassionate. Even in the darkest moments he will not forget, because of his unflinching love for us.

Jesus in the Gospel claims the same authority to work on sabbath as that of Father and has the same powers over life and death. This enrages the leaders and decides to kill Jesus for this. They understood that Jesus was making himself equal to God the father. He confirms it by saying His reply is “my Father is at work, so I am at work”.

Dear friends, Jesus mirrors God, the Father. God, the Father speaks and acts through Jesus. So everything Jesus does is according to the will of the Father, so to refuse to honor him is to refuse to honor the father. Jesus thus the way, only way to the father.

Therefore, the readings assure us two things for us:

God is our comforter, he will not abandon us in our struggles and troubles.

Jesus is the perfect reflection of God, the Father. He promises strength in our stresses, guidance in our doubts, perseverance in our difficulties.

And it’s restoring and rejoicing time being with God, and walking in his ways.

When cares increase within me, your comfort gives me joy. (Psalm 94:19)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and God of all encouragement,who encourages us in our every affliction, so that we may be able to encourage those who are in any affliction with the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged by God. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

Exodus 32:7-14

John 5:31-47

Forgetfulness produces ingratitude, which produces disbelief and disobedience.

The people of Israel rather than being grateful to God for liberating them from slavery and oppression in Egypt, they started to complain about food, when God provided food they expressed disdain towards manna. They were focused only on their material needs, forgetting the freedom and other blessings God had showered on them.

In today’s first reading we see, while Moses was still praying and receiving the law from the Lord they became impatient and made “a golden calf”, symbolising the presence of God. they started paying homages, worshipping as though it was their saviour who brought them out of slavery. They started to worship a creation of their own hands. When God sees this, he is furious and decides to punish them with fire but Moses pleads for them. He does this often whenever they went against the law of the Lord and whenever they complained against him.

Certainly their attitude towards God was one of ungratefulness, no matter what God did for them they constantly complained and murmured. It was never enough for them. They tend to worship instead god of their own hands, prophet Hosea also speaks of this in his book chapter 14. They forgot the God who redeemed them, which made them to be ungrateful and thus disobey God’s command, for such people there is no sense of obligation. Today’s reading is one such example.

In the Gospel of the day, Jesus continues to affirm to the Leaders that He is from God and his works are from God that God himself is the witness. Jesus presents in four ways that what He says is True:

The testimony of John the Baptist

The Works of Jesus indicate Divine Origin

The Father himself given testimony (at Baptism and Transfiguration)

The Scriptures testify about Jesus ( Prophecies referring to Him)

But the Leaders neither accepted nor believed in him. If they would carefully go through these four ways they would surely accept and believe.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Both readings present to us the ingratitude towards God and his works in their lives, the liberation and the kingdom through Jesus and many more blessings showered through Jesus.

We too are in similar ungrateful situations many times, forgetting the great things God has done for us, all that he is continuing to do for us and complaining and fashioning our own gods, trusting and worshipping them.

As God has forgiven the people of Israel in the first reading, so He is ready to forgive us and show His mercy towards us. Let us today during this time of lent reflect on this aspect and let us be grateful for all that He has given us right from our life, family, friends and works.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,his mercy endures forever. (Psalms 118:1)

Rejoice always; Pray without ceasing; In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.(1 Thessalonians 16-18)

Life in Abundance with the Presence of God

The prophet Ezekiel describes a beautiful experience of a vision with a significant meaning. The three important terms are Temple (God), Water and Abundance.

The vision was, a Life giving stream of Water flowing from underneath of the Temple gushing into different directions. Wherever the water flows there is abundance of life (lush green trees/healthy plants at the banks of the river); as the river flows to river Jordan and streams into Dead Sea (which has high salt percentage which make it unsustainable for the sea living organism). However, with the water flowing from the Temple, as it enters it makes the water fresh and viable for life and able to sustain life.

It beautifully indicates the relation between God and the faithful.

The source of the water is the Temple, in other words God who is the source of Life. as the water flows from the source of Life, naturally wherever the flow brings life and prosperity in abundance. It’s so powerful even in our life too, when the water of life, the experience of God streams into our life, there are undoubtedly blessings in abundance, it brings a sense of freshness, prosperity and health and wealth. Even if we are like the dead sea in our life, without flourishing, life less, the word of God, the presence and experience of God makes us sustain. If there is no water of life, the presence of God in our life, there is dryness and desert like life (Revelation 22:1).

In the Gospel, we see something interesting that the Water is linked to the healing. When Jesus attends a festival at Jerusalem, goes to a pool called Bethesda (sheep gate). There are many sick people, blind, lame and paralysed waiting for a movement in water. It is believed that healing powers when the water is stirred up on certain occasions. Anyone who goes first is healed of their afflictions and ailments.

Jesus asks a lame person, “ Do you want to be well”? An important question applies to us. Because we are in a similar position of blindness, lame and paralysed. We are blind to see the reality, the value of our life and the truth of God. We are also lame and paralysed to walk in the ways of the Lord, the right path which leads us to life in abundance. That’s why Jesus says “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.”(John 10:10). That’s why he who comes to him will never thirst, will never lack the blessings.

When Jesus meets him for the first time, orders him to rise, pick up the mat and walk. Jesus gives physical healing. Then when Jesus meets him again and orders him sin no more, You are made well physically and to be spiritually well the command is to not to sin.

And that our physical wellbeing must also be in harmony with our spiritual well being. Then as a whole person we become complete in God and our life is a blessed one.

Let us during this lent in the remaining days pose this question, Do I want to be well?

The presence of God has the answer to the question.

The water of blessing and life is initiated through our Baptism.

Let us physically and spiritually be blessed with the water flowing the Temple of God (the Presence of God)

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.(John 6:35)

Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:12)

Hope - Hold On Pain Ends

Dear Brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, the readings presented to us today lead us to establish “Hope” in our lives. Hope in general, reduces our helplessness and stress and increases our happiness and quality of life. In simple words, it helps us move forward despite the difficulties with a belief of better days to come. Whereas Biblical Hope is to have a belief and confidence in God’s promises and faithfulness.

In today’s first reading, Prophet Isaiah offers to the people of Israel a Hope of future Messianic age, in which as God promised “look! I am going to create new heavens and new earth”. God promises a new heaven and new earth and new jerusalem. Messianic Age /world refers to a :

●     A world with life and prosperity

●     A world filled with joy and peace

●     A world without weeping, sadeness, pain and death.

In the present times, the world is completely polluted by sin and sinfulness, therefore in the Messianic Age there will be complete renewal of the world in which the past is totally erased by the hand of God.

To put it plainly, Messianic Age is going to bring better times, better futures and better lives Individually, Socially and the whole world as a whole (a complete transformation).   

In fact, this is what Jesus proclaimed through his personality and his ministry, In him  is the Messianic Age. That's why St. Paul says  “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). God has formed us and made us in his image and likeness, unique in our personality, but this was marred by our sins. However God is capable of once again creating us anew (the New US)

An example is found in today’s Gospel. Jesus restores the life of the dying son of the Official. It was not just a physical healing but a spiritual healing too. When the official came with a request to heal his son, he believed in Jesus. And when Jesus said “ go home!your son will live”. He set off for his home believing the words of Jesus because Jesusò’words have hope.  The power of Jesus' words and combined with the faith of the official brought a miracle in his family. The whole household was made anew with the gift of healing, life and blessing of Jesus.

This is what Jesus came to do with us. We are threatened with death due to our sinfulness and He came to save our souls and offer us new hope and new life in the face of our inevitable death for Jesus said “ I am the resurrection and the Life”    

 

 

It is a known fact that There will be pains, sickness, and tragedies but God offers us a hope of new life, if we are firm in our faith.

 

For I know well the plans I have in mind for you—oracle of the LORD—plans for your welfare and not for woe, so as to give you a future of hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

You are my refuge and shield;in your word I hope. (Psalm 119:114)

Fourth Sunday of Lent

1 Sm 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13; Eph 5:8-14;  Jn 9:1-41

 

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, the readings of the day focus on “Sight”. There is a beautiful saying “ do not judge a book by its cover”.

 

The Foundation:

1st reading : it is said in the first reading “Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the LORD looks into the heart." Prophet Samuel was sent to Jesse, to appoint one of his sons as the King of Israel after Saul disobeyed God. when Samuel saw the eldest son, tall and handsome and thought he must be God’s choice to be king. But he was not in God’s choice nor did other children expect the youngest son, David who was shepherding the flock of his father.

●     God does not choose nor judge by outward appearances.

●     God is not deceived by the external image and manifestation of one’s health and wealth, name and fame.

This lays the foundation for the Gospel in which Jesus says, the man was born blind for the manifestation of God’s works. 

 

Gospel:

In the Gospel Jesus restores sight to a man born blind. This is not just a simple story of healing blindness but it represents the lives of every follower of Christ. This is to bring light and sight to the people in darkness and blindness. Next what happens to this man is a perfect example of the life of every follower of Christ.

Pharisees, consider that what Jesus has done on sabbath was against the law. To spread that Jesus is not from God they pressurise first the man to give false narrative about himself, then they pressurise his parents to state false narrative that their son is only temporarily blind. Once again they put pressure on the man. Their sole intention was to twist the facts to suit their position and spread false narratives about Jesus.

This man was brave and firm, he was not perplexed by their interrogation or intimidation. He was clear in his position. He was born blind, now healed by Jesus, who is a prophet and from God. 

Pharisees brush him aside, refuse to accept his blindness, also by his words of faith they get angry and start to insult him and refuse to accept Jesus. These are the traits of people who are blinded by their prejudices and false indoctrinations (teachings).

Today in our society too,  a group of people have arisen who do not accept the facts and truths of life, who do not want to know, who are indoctrinated by false narratives. When they face facts, they get angry and resort to insulting the other.

 

After he was expelled from synagogue and community, he was found by Jesus again. This time his spiritual sight was opened, he was led to see Jesus, the Messiah. He accepts, believes and becomes instantly the disciple of Christ. 

In the beginning the man was  born blind, he could not see

●     He was a beggar, referring he has nothing

●     He is an outsider, no one to accept him

●     He was without christ

But in the end he was accepted by Jesus, able to see physically and spiritually, he became a disciple of Jesus, he saw the light of Christ. A new life has begun for him.

 

But the Pharisees remained in their blindness. They were blinded by their prejudices, sins, refusal to accept the facts, refusal to listen, and above all by their pride. That’s why they could not see Jesus, the saviour, the light of the world. They were Spiritually blinded to the truths.

 

As in the first reading, God skipped over all the brothers but saw a great character of goodness and caring, great potential to be leader in David, the youngest son. So also in the Gospel, Jesus passed over self righteous and so called religious Pharisees and saw blind beggar to be a great disciple. His life was totally transformed. In the second reading dear brothers and sisters, St. Paul reminds us today therefore that we were in darkness and blindness. But now we are chosen by God, found by Jesus to manifest his Divine will and works. Hence, he has bestowed on the light and sight to see clearly. We became the children of light. So in our lives we need to reflect that aspect of light and sight, need to be people of integrity, good, right and true, and transparent, need not hide from light because we are in light.

 

Today, let our prayer be along with the beggar in the Gospel : Lord, that I may see.

 

And I will give them another heart and a new spirit I will put within them. From their bodies I will remove the hearts of stone, and give them hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 11:19)

in whose case the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that they may not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.(2 Corinthians 4:4)

ఈనాటి ఆదివారమును "ఆనందించు ఆదివారం" అని పిలుస్తారు, ఎందుకంటే ప్రభువు యొక్క పునరుద్దాన గడియలు ఆసన్నమవుతున్నాయి కాబట్టి, ఈ నాటి  గ్రంథ పఠనాలు దేవుడు మనకు ప్రసాదించు వెలుగు గురించి తెలియజేస్తున్నాయి, మనకు ఆయన కేవలం శారీరక వెలుగును మాత్రమే కాక ఆధ్యాత్మిక వెలుగును కలుగజేసి మనల్ని మంచి వైపుకు నడిపిస్తారు అనే అంశం తెలియజేస్తున్నారు.

ఈనాటి మొదటి పఠనం లో  దేవుడు సమూయేలు ప్రవక్త ద్వారా దావీదును ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలకు రాజుగా ఎన్నుకొనుటను చదువుకుంటున్నాం.

సమూయేలు ప్రవక్త చివరి న్యాయాధిపతి, ఆయన యొక్క జీవితకాలం చివరి సమయంలో తన తరువాత సమూయేలు ఇశ్రాయేలు 12 గోత్రాల వారిని ఒకటిగా చేసి దేవుని యొక్క సందేశమును అందించేలా ప్రయత్నించాడు, కానీ ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలు వారి వల్ల సంతృప్తి చెందలేదు, అందుకని వారు దేవుడిని ఒక రాజు కావాలని సమూయేలు ప్రవక్త ద్వారా అడిగారు.

ప్రజల యొక్క కోరిక మీదగా యావే దేవుడు సౌలును ఇశ్రాయేలుకు రాజుగా నియమించారు. సౌలు రాజును దేవుడు ఇశ్రాయేలుకు మొదటి రాజుగా నియమించారు, వాస్తవానికి యావే దేవుడు మాత్రమే నిజమైన రాజు, ఆయన్ను తిరస్కరించి మానవ మాతృణ్ణి రాజుగా ప్రజల కోరిక మీద బలంగా ధైర్యంగా ఎత్తైన వాడిని దేవుడు రాజుగా నియమించాడు, అయితే దేవుడు సౌలు జీవితం చూసి సంతృప్తి చెందలేదు.

సౌలును దేవుడు ఆమెలికేయులు  మీద యుద్ధం చేసి అంతయు నాశనం చేయమని చెప్పినప్పుడు సౌలు దేవుని యొక్క మాటను ధిక్కరించాడు - 1 సమూ 15:3,8-9 సౌలు అమలేకీయుల రాజు "అగాగును"అదేవిధంగా క్రొవ్విన ఎడ్లను, దూడలను, గొర్రెలను, గొర్రె పిల్లలను మంచివి మిగులుచుకున్నాడు, అందుకే దేవుణ్ణి  నిరాకరించారు. ఆయన రాజుగా నియమించినందుకు దేవుడు విచారించారు.

సమూయేలు సౌలు చేసిన పనికి దుఃఖించే సందర్భంలో యావే  దేవుడు ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలకు మరొక కొత్త రాజును ఎన్నుకొనదలిచాడు, అందుకనే బెత్లెహేములో ఉన్న ఇషాయి కుమారుల వద్దకు సమూహేలును దేవుడు పంపించారు సమూయేలు ఇషాయి యొక్క కుమారులను చూసినప్పుడు వారి యొక్క శరీరాకృతి బట్టి, వరుస క్రమమును బట్టి, ఎత్తును బట్టి ఎన్ను కనక దేవుని చిత్తము ప్రకారం దేవునికి ఇష్టమైన వ్యక్తిని ఎన్నుకున్నారు.

అందుకని దేవుడు యెషయా ప్రవక్త ద్వారా అంటారు, నేను నరుడు చూసిన దృష్టితో చూడను అని - యెషయా  55:8-9, 1 సమూ 16,7.

సమూయేలు మొదట్లో ఒక్కొక్కరి ఆకారంను, ఎత్తు ప్రకారంగా ఎన్నుకోవాలనుకున్నారు. వారిని అందరిని దేవుడు నిరాకరించి చిన్న కుమారుడైన దావీదును ఎన్నుకున్నాడు. అందరి యొక్క ఆలోచనలకు భిన్నంగా దేవుడు దావీదును ఎన్నుకున్నాడు, దావీదు యొక్క ఎన్నిక చాలా గొప్పది ఎందుకంటే ఒక సామాన్యమైన గొర్రెల కాపరిని దేవుడు అనేక మందికి రాజుగా నియమిస్తున్నారు. ప్రజలు ఎవరు చూడని గొప్పతనం యావే  దేవుడు దావీదులో చూశారు అందుకే ఆయన్ని అభిషేకించమని తెలిపారు.

దావీదు తన యొక్క పనిలో నిమగ్నమైన సమయంలోనే దేవుడు అతడిని ఎన్నుకుంటున్నారు. పవిత్ర గ్రంథంలో కూడా చాలా మటుకి పనిచేసే సమయంలోనే దేవుడు వారిని తన సేవకై అనుకుంటున్నారు.

1. మోషే సినాయి పర్వతము వద్ద గొర్రెలు మేపే సందర్భంలో దైవ పిలుపు స్వీకరించాడు - నిర్గమా 3:1-4

2. మత్తయిని సుంకం వసూలు చేసే సందర్భంలో పిలిచారు - మత్తయి 9:13

3. పేతురు, అంద్రియ, యోహాను, యాకోబులను వలలు శుభ్రం చేసే సందర్భంలో పిలిచారు ఎన్నుకొన్నారు - మత్తయి 4:18-22

4. సౌలును దమస్కు వెళ్లే సందర్భంలో పిలిచారు తన యొక్క పని నిమిత్తమై వెళ్లే సందర్భంలో పిలిచారు - అపో 9

5. దావీదును కూడా గొర్రెలు మేపుకునే  సందర్భంలో ఎన్నుకుంటున్నారు - 1సమూ 16:11

ప్రతి ఎన్నిక దేవుని యొక్క చిత్తానుసారంగా ఉంటుంది, ఆయన పిలిచారు, ఎన్నుకొన్నారు. స్వయంగా ఆయనే  కావాలని భావించి సమూయేలు చేత అభిషేకించారు. దావీదు తన యొక్క కుటుంబంలో అంతా తక్కువగా పరిగణించబడే వ్యక్తి, అందుకే కేవలం ఆయన ఒక్కడే గొర్రెలు కాయడానికి పలమునకు వెళ్ళాడు మిగతా వారందరూ ఇంటివద్దె ఉన్నారు, దావీదు ఎన్నిక విషయంలో ఈ వాక్యం నిజం. ఇల్లు కట్టు వారు పనికిరాదని పారవేయ బడినరాయి మూలరాయి అయినది - కీర్తన 118:15-27.

కుటుంబంలో ఉన్న వారి దృష్టిలో చిన్నవాడు అంతా పనికిరాని వాడని భావించినప్పటికీ దేవుడు మాత్రము అలాంటి వ్యక్తిని ఎన్నుకున్నారు. మొదటి రాజును ఎన్నుకునే సందర్భంలో దేవుడు ప్రజల యొక్క ఆలోచనలకు అనుగుణంగా వారికి ఎలాంటి వాడు కావాలో ఆయనే ఎన్నుకున్నాడు - 1సమూ 9:2 కానీ ఆ రాజు దేవుని సంతృప్తి పరచలేదు కనుక రెండవ రాజును దేవుడు తనకు ఇష్టమైన రాజును ఎన్నుకున్నారు.

దావీదు యొక్క హృదయమును ప్రభువు చూస్తున్నారు, ఆయన యొక్క ధైర్యమును త్యాగపూరితమైన జీవితంను అలాగే ఆయన యొక్క నడిపింపును చూసిన దేవుడు దావీదును రాజుగా నియమిస్తున్నారు. ఒక కాపరిగా దావీదుకు సహనం, ప్రేమ కూడా ఎక్కువ అందుకే ఆయన్ను ఎన్నుకుంటున్నాడు, దేవుని యొక్క అభిషేకం ఎంతటి బలహీనులనైనా వారిని సైతం బలవంతులను చేస్తుంది, అభిషేకం ద్వారా దేవుని యొక్క ఆత్మ దావీదులో ప్రవేశించి అతని శక్తివంతునిగా చేస్తుంది. దావీదు ద్వారా దేవుడు ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలకు అనేక యుద్ధాలలో విజయంన్ని దయచేసి దేవుని యొక్క అభిషేకం ప్రత్యేకమైనది అది మానవుల యొక్క ఆలోచనలకు భిన్నంగా ఉంటుంది, దావీదు ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలను 12 గోత్రాల వారిని తన పరిపాలనలో ఐక్యం చేశారు మనం కూడా ఎదుట వారిలో ఉండే మంచితనంను వారి యొక్క హృదయం నే చోడాలి అంతేగాని బయట కనిపించే వారి యొక్క ప్రవక్త కాదు ఎందుకంటే బయటకు చాలామంది మంచిగా ఉన్నట్లు నటిస్తారు కాబట్టి కనపడేదే కాకుండా హృదయం ను చూసి జీవించాలి.

ఈనాటి రెండవ పఠనం లో  పౌలు గారు ఎఫెసులో ఉన్న క్రైస్తవులను వెలుగుకు సంబంధించిన ప్రజలు వలే జీవింపమని కోరుచున్నారు, ప్రభువు నందు జ్ఞాన స్నానం పొందినంతవరకు వారు అందరూ అంధకారంలో జీవించిన వారే కానీ జ్ఞాన స్నానంతో క్రీస్తు ప్రభువు వెలుగును పొంది ఉన్నారు కాబట్టి ఆయన వలె నీతివంతమైన జీవితంను జీవించాలి.

వారి యొక్క పాపపు  క్రియల ద్వారా చీకటిలో జీవించారు, కానీ ఇప్పుడు వెలుగు పుత్రి పుత్రికలుగా జీవించమని తెలిపారు. వెలుగు పుత్రికలుగా అంటే దేవుని యొక్క చిత్తంకు అనుగుణంగా జీవించాలి, మంచితనం కలిగి ఉండాలి, చీకటి ఎన్నటికీని వెలుగును పారత్రోల లేదు, కానీ వెలుగు చీకటిని పారద్రోలుతుంది కాబట్టి మనందరం కూడా మేల్కొని మంచి కార్యములు చేయుటకు ప్రయత్నించాలి ఈ లోకంలో యేసు ప్రభువు చెప్పిన మాట ప్రకారం మనం జీవిస్తే వెలుగు ప్రకారంగా జీవించిన వారమవుతాం.

 ఏ విధంగా మనం వెలుగు నందు జీవించగలుగుతాం అంటే:

1. దేవుని విశ్వసించుట ద్వారా మనం అంధకారంలో ఉండక వెలుగులో జీవిస్తాం - రోమి 1:22-23

2. దైవవాక్కును తెలుసుకున్నట్టు ద్వారా విశ్వాసులు అంధకారం గాక వెలుగులో ఉంటారు - 2 కొరింతీ 4:4,1  కొరింథి 1:18

ప్రభువును గుర్తించలేకపోవడం ద్వారా ఆయన శిలువ యొక్క ఔనత్వం గమనించలేకపోవటం ద్వారా ఇంకా ప్రజల అంధకారంలోనే ఉంటున్నారు.

3. దేవుని యొక్క నీతిని పాటించుట ద్వారా వెలుగులో జీవించవచ్చు - రోమి 13:12-14

4. సత్యం ను పాటించుట ద్వారా వెలుగులో జీవించవచ్చు.

5. శోధనలకు లొంగిపోకుండా జీవించినప్పుడు మన వెలుగులో జీవించవచ్చు.

6. పాపమును విడిచి క్రీస్తు ప్రభువుని అనుసరించినప్పుడు వెలుగులో జీవించవచ్చు.

ఈనాటి సువిశేష పట్టణంలో యేసు ప్రభువు పుట్టు గ్రుడ్డివానికి దృష్టిని ప్రసాదించిన విధానంను చదువుకుంటున్నాం.  యేసుప్రభు పర్ణశాలల పండుగ నిమిత్తమై ఎరుషలేము చేరారు ఈ పండుగ ఎనిమిది రోజుల పండుగ - యోహాను 7:10.

ఏసుప్రభు యెరూషలేములో ఉన్న సందర్భంలో తానే ఈ లోకమునకు వెలుగు అని బోధించారు. నన్ను వెంబడించే వారు చీకటిలో నడవక వెలుగును పొందుతారు అని ప్రభువు పలుకుచున్నారు- యోహాను 8:12.

ఏసుప్రభు వెళ్లే దారి గుండా  ఒక కుటుంబాన్ని చూశారు ప్రభు ఆయన్ను చూసి సానుభూతిని వెల్లడిస్తున్నారు అందుకనే ఆయనకు సహాయం చేయాలనుకున్నారు శిష్యులు కూడా ఈ గ్రుడ్డివాని యొక్క విషయంలో ప్రత్యేకమైన ఆసక్తిని కనబరిచారు.

గ్రుడ్డివాని విషయంలో ప్రభువుని శిష్యులు ఆయన యొక్క అధికారంకు ఎవరూ కారణం అని అడుగుచున్నారు. అప్పటి ప్రజల యొక్క నమ్మకం ఏమిటంటే ఒక వ్యక్తి కష్టాల పాలయ్యేది వారి యొక్క పాపాల వల్లనే అనే అంశమును గట్టిగానే అమ్మేవారు, ఆయన పాపాల వల్ల కానీ ఆయన తల్లిదండ్రుల పాపాల వల్ల గాని అతడు ఎంతటి దురదృష్టకరమైన స్థితికి చేరుకున్నాడు అనే శిష్యులు అతని ఎడల కనికరం కలిగి ఉన్నారు. ఏసుప్రభు పలికిన సమాధానం ఏమిటంటే ఎవరి పాపాలు ఇతని శిక్షకు కారణం కాదు కేవలం దేవుని మహిమా ఇతని యందు భయపడుటకై అతడు గ్రుడ్డి వానిగా  జన్మించాడు అన్నారు.

ఒక వ్యక్తి బాధలు కష్టాలు, అనారోగ్యాలు అనుభవించేది దేవుని మహిమను ప్రభువు వెల్లడి చేయుటకు దేవుని సానుభూతి చూపుటకు దేవుని శక్తి తెలియజేయుటకు దేవుడు ప్రతి ఒక్కరి కష్టాలలో తోడుగా ఉంటారని తెలుపుటకు నమ్మకం లేని వారికి కూడా నమ్మకం కలిగించుటకు అందుకే కొందరు అర్థం కాని విధంగా జీవితంలో బాధలు అనుభవిస్తారు అది అంతయు దేవుని మహిమ కొరకే.

లూక 13:1-9,5:18-20,యాకోబు 5:14-15 దేవుని మహిమ కొరకు బాధలు మరణం అనుభవించిన వారు చాలామంది ఉన్నారు.

ఎవరి యొక్క బాధలు కష్టాలు, శాశ్వతం కాదు అందుకు నిదర్శనం ఈనాటి సువిశేషం అతని యొక్క అంధకార జీవితం మొత్తం కొనసాగించబడలేదు, ఆయన ఈ లోకంలో కష్టపడుతున్నాడు కాబట్టి దేవుడు అతనికి మేలు చేస్తున్నారు.

ఈ గ్రుడ్డివాని విషయంలో యేసు ప్రభువే ఎక్కువ చొరవ ఆసక్తి తీసుకుంటున్నారు. ఆయన వద్దకు వెళ్లి ఆయన్ని స్వస్థత పరుస్తున్నారు అందుకే ప్రభువు ఈ లోకానికి వచ్చారు - లుకా 19:10,1 పేతురు 5:7.

ఏసుక్రీస్తు ఈ లోకమునకు వెలుగై  ఉన్నారు, ఎవరైతే అధికారం నుండి బయటకు రావాలనుకుంటున్నారు వారు క్రీస్తు ప్రభువు చెంతకు రావాలి- యోహాను 1:4, 8:12. ఏసుప్రభువుతో సంభాషించిన గ్రుడ్డివానికి ప్రభువు వెలుగును ప్రసాదించారు.

ఏసుప్రభు సాధారణంగా స్వస్థపరిచేటప్పుడు మాట ద్వారా చాలామందిని స్వస్థపరిచారు, కానీ ఇతడి విషయంలో మాటను ఉపయోగించలేదు క్రియలు చేస్తున్నారు అవి ఏమిటంటే:

1. ఆయన కనులను త్రాగుచున్నారు

2. ఉమ్మిని వినియోగిస్తున్నారు

3. మట్టిని ఉమ్మిని కలిసి అతని కళ్ళకు అద్దుతున్నారు

ఈ విధంగా ప్రభువు ఎందుకు చేస్తున్నారంటే అప్పటి ప్రజల యొక్క విశ్వాసం ఏమిటంటే పవిత్రమైన వ్యక్తుల యొక్క ఉమ్మిలో దైవ శక్తి దాగి ఉన్నదని వారి యొక్క విశ్వాసం, అతని యొక్క విశ్వాసంను బలపరచడం కోసం ప్రభువు ఈ విధంగా చేశారు మట్టిని ఎందుకు వినియోగించారంటే మట్టితో దేవుడు క్రొత్తమనిషిని చేశారు, అలాగే ఈ గ్రుడ్డివానికి కూడా దేవుడు క్రొత్త  జీవితం ప్రసాదించారు ఇక ఆయన ఎవరి మీద ఆధారపడవలసిన అవసరం లేదు ఇక బిక్షం ఎత్తుకోనవసరం లేదు అందరి చేత నిందలు భరించనవసరం లేదు స్వేచ్ఛ స్వతంత్రునిగా జీవించవచ్చు.

ఏసుప్రభు గ్రుడ్డివానిని శిలోయము కోనేటి వద్దకు పంపిస్తున్నారు శిలోయము అంటేనే పంపుట అని అర్థం అంటే మెస్సయ్య పంపబడిన విధంగా ఇతడు కూడా నీటి వద్దకు పంపబడ్డాడు దేవునికి విధేయత చూపుతూ అతడు నీటి వద్దకు వెళ్లాడు కావున అతడు స్వస్థత పొందాడు.

గ్రుడ్డివాడు స్వస్థత పొందిన తరువాత ఆయన యొక్క శారీరక అంధకారము మాత్రమే కాదు తొలగినది ఆధ్యాత్మిక అంధకారం కూడా తొలగిపోయినది. ఎందుకంటే ఆయన మొదటి ఏసుప్రభువును ఒక సాధారణ వ్యక్తి గానే పరిగణించాడు తరువాత ఆయన్ను ప్రవక్త అని గుర్తించాడు అటు తరువాత ఏసు ప్రభువును మెస్సయ్య అని మనుష్య కుమారుడని గుర్తించాడు ఆయనను స్వస్థత పరిచే దేవునిగా విముక్తిని చేసే దేవునిగా గుర్తించాడు కొంతమంది పరిసయ్యులు గ్రుడ్డివాడు విశ్రాంతి దినమున స్వస్థత పొందుట సహించలేకపోయారు దానికి తోడుగా అతన్ని అతని తల్లిదండ్రులను అనేక ప్రశ్నలు అడుగుచున్నారు వారు సోదర స్వస్థత కన్నా నియమములకే ఎక్కువగా ప్రాధాన్యత నిచ్చే జీవించారు చివరికి స్వస్థత పొందిన వాడినే వెలివేస్తున్నారు.

పరిసయులకు యేసు ప్రభువు చేసిన గొప్ప కార్యం చూచుటకు వారి యొక్క కన్నులను తెరువలేదు గ్రుడ్డివారికి దృష్టితనం చేస్తే మెచ్చుకోవడానికి బదులుగా  విశ్రాంతి దినం పాటించలేదని ఆయన మీద నిందారోపణ చేశారు పరిసయులలో మానవత్వం తగ్గిపోయింది తాము ఇంకా మోషే యొక్క శిష్యులు అని కపిట జీవితం జీవనంను గడుపుచున్నారు ఈ అంధుడు  ఏసుప్రభువు దేవుని దగ్గర నుండి వచ్చిన వాడిని గుర్తించాడు - యోహాను 9:31

దేవుడు పాపులను ఆలకించడని నీతిమంతుల ప్రార్ధన ద్వారా దేవుడు స్వస్థత నిస్తాడని భావించాడు. ప్రభువుని ఆరాధించారు, ప్రభువు మంచితనంను చాటి చెబుతున్నాడు పరిసయ్యులు ఎదుటి వ్యక్తిలో ఉన్న మంచితనం ను చూడలేకపోయారు. మనం కూడా చాలా సందర్భాలలో అంతులమే:

1. పాప జీవితం జీవిస్తూ అంధకారంలో ఉంటున్నాం

2. దేవుని వెంబడించకుండా అంధకారంలో జీవిస్తున్నాము

3. ఎదుటివారిలో మంచితనం చూడలేకపోతున్నాం

4. ఎదుటివారిని ప్రేమను చూడలేకపోతున్నాం

5. ఎదుటివారి కష్టంను చూడలేకున్నాం

6. ఎదుటివారి యొక్క అవసరాలు చూడకుండా అంధకారంలో ఉన్నాము

ఈ విధంగా చాలా సందర్భాలలో మనం అంధకారం లో  ఉన్న వారమే, కాబట్టి దేవుని వెలుగు పొందుతూ వెలుగులో జీవించుదాం.

Praying with the Right Attitude

 

The readings of the day focus on the attitude or the disposition towards Prayer, in other words how are we praying to God.

In the first reading, Prophet Hosea presents to us the prayer of repentance of the people of Israel who are afraid of God’s punishments. They were in fact complaining that God has abandoned them, hurt them and also have a feeling that only God can heal and save them. So they offer a prayer of repentance.

But when we reflect this repentant prayer, this appears superficial and their attitude in prayer and their love towards God was just momentary. There was no real repentance.

God was not pleased with this attitude, this empty expression of words and offerings. Their words seem highly devotional but hearts and actions are not resonating with their words, there was No harmony between their words and attitude. That’s why God condemns their sinful attitude.

Similarly in the Gospel too we find this type of attitude towards God in Prayer.

The societal understanding:

There are two people who went to pray, A Pharisee and a tax collector but only one goes home “justified”. The two persons in today’s Gospel represent two kinds of personalities, two kinds of attitudes and two verdicts. In people’s eyes:

●     A Pharisee is considered a model of virtue and wisdom,While

●     A  Tax collector is considered a sinner and disgraceful to the community

The prayer of the Pharisee:

●     He prayed with exalted tone filled with pride

●     He lists all his merits ( fasting and going beyond the rules)

●     He compares himself to others (looks down on others)

●     His focus was on the flaws of the other while losing sight of his need

●     In fact, it appears like praying but it’s a kind of self praise and satisfaction.

The prayer of the tax collector, on the other hand,

●     He looks at his miserable situation of heart ( life)

●     He acknowledges his sinful nature

●     He looks and begs for God’s mercy

St. Paul writing to Corinthians says, “ Pride puffs up, whereas love builds up”( 1 Corinthians 8:1). The attitude of pride and arrogance pushes us away from reality, from others, despises and looks down on others and blinds our hearts. Whereas love unites and helps to see ourselves in our real situation and welcomes the weak and embraces. This was what happened to Pharisee and the people of Israel. Their love for God was momentary, it only appeared on external offerings and utterance of few devotional words. Therefore, to be pleased and  be justified in God’s sight the readings give us a better solution.

➔   God requires of us is genuine loving actions not empty words and rituals

➔   God requires of is knowledge of God (profound relationship with God) not knowledge about God

Therefore, today it is not how many masses we participated, or how many prayers we have said but how our attitude and disposition in our relationship with God and others. Our attitude should spring from our prayer and our prayer should spring from our way of life. So we need to be humble in our approach (in our hearts, feeling and thoughts, words and actions); Sincere contrition and open the door of mercy of God; Sincere love towards God and others.

And this lent, let us choose to fast from arrogance, pride and superficial offerings and prayers.
