క్షమాపణ మరియు విమోచన అనుగ్రహముకు   (దివ్య సప్రసాదం=యేసు యొక్క సన్నిధి)

 

క్రీస్తునందు ప్రియమైన మిత్రులారా, ఈనాటి సువిశేషము సుంకరి అయినా లేవీ యొక్క పిలుపును మరియు ఆ పిలుపుకు అతని ప్రతిస్పందన గురించి తెలియచేయబడింది. అతను సత్వరమే లేచి, సమస్తము వదిలి, క్రీస్తును అనుసరించాడు. "నన్ను అనుసరించు" అని వినగానే, వెంటనే లేచి,  యేసుకు అంకితం అవడానికి సిద్దమయ్యాడు మరియు  అతని గుర్తింపు, ఆర్థిక భద్రత, అతని ఉద్యోగం, అతని పాపపు జీవితం, అతని ప్రస్తుత పరిస్థితి అన్నీ విడిచిపెట్టి, యేసును అనుసరించాడు. అతని జీవన శైలిని మార్చుకోవడానికి కూడా సిద్దమయ్యాడు  ఎందుకంటే యేసును అనుసరించడం అనేది జీవనశైలిలో మార్పును కలిగి ఉంటుంది (అవాంఛిత జీవనశైలి, అలవాట్లు, పాపానికి గురిచేసి వ్యక్తుల నుండి దూరంగా నడవడం) నిబద్ధత మరియు త్యాగం కలిగి ఉంటుంది. ఒకరి పేరు, పని, దిశలో మార్పు ఉంటుంది మరియు అతను యేసుతో ముందుకు సాగడానికి సిద్ధంగా అంటే  (అతని శిలువను మోయడానికి సిద్దమయ్యాడు) మరియు క్రీస్తులో నూతన జీవనశైలిని ప్రారంభించాడు.

 

లేవీ, తరువాత మత్తయిగా అని పిలువబడ్డాడు, పాపం మరియు తనను నాశనం చేసే చోటు నుంచి  లేచి/కదిలి,  ఆనందము మరియు క్షమాపణ పీఠానికి కదిలాడు జీవితాన్నిపునర్నిర్మించుకున్నాడు.

 

ప్రభువు మార్గాన్ని అనుసరించడం వల్ల ఆధ్యాత్మిక బహుమతులు మరియు ప్రయోజనాలు పుష్కలంగా ఉన్నాయని లేవీ పిలుపు మనకు గుర్తుచేస్తుంది.

మనము మొదటి పఠనంలో చూసినట్లయితే ముఖ్యంగా 58:11-12 దేవునిని అనుసరించడం మరియు ఆయనతో ఉండడం అంటే ఏమిటో వివరిస్తుంది: నే నెల్లపుడు మిమ్ము నడిపింతును. మీ అక్కరలు  తీర్చి మీకు సంతృప్తి నొసగును. మీకు బలమును దయచేయుదును. మీరు నీరు కట్టిన తోట వలె కళకళలాడుదురు. వట్టిపోని చెలామ వలె ఒప్పుదురు.  మీ జనులు బహు కాలము నుండి శిథిలముగా నున్న గృహములను పునర్నిర్మింతురు. మీరు పూర్వపు పునాదుల మీదనే ఇండ్లు కట్టుదురు. ప్రాకారములను మరల కట్టినవారుగా శిధిలాగృహములను పునర్నిర్మించిన వారుగా పేరు తెచ్చుకొందురు.  

 

చాల దీవెనలు మరియు  ఆశీర్వాదాలు దేవుని అనుసరించడం వలన ఉన్నాయి, అయితే మొదటి పఠనం మరియు సువార్త నుండి మనం కనీసం మూడు ఆశీర్వాదాలను ధ్యానం చేసుకోవచ్చు:

1. ఆదరణ:  ఏ విధంగా అంటే  మనలను నడిపించడం, సంతృప్తి పరచడం మరియు బలపరచడం ద్వారా మనలను ఆదరిస్తాడు మరియు పెంపొందిస్తారు. తమ కోసం ఎవరూ లేరని అనుకునే వారు, వారి ఆత్మలలో ఒక రకమైన ఒంటరి తనాన్ని మరియు ఎడారి జీవితాన్ని అనుభవించే వారు మరియు ఈ ప్రపంచంలోని అన్ని ఒత్తిడిలు మరియు చింతలకు గురి అయ్యేవారికి  భగవంతుడు ఆదరిస్తాడు /జీవనోపాధిని ఇస్తాడు. (కీర్తన 55:22 మరియు యెషయా 46:3-5) మరియు మనకు అవసరమైన వాటిని అందించడం ద్వారా ఆయన మనలను ఆదరిస్తాడు, ఆయన సంరక్షణలో విశ్రాంతిని ఇస్తారు. మన కలత చెందిన ఆత్మలను శాంతింపజేసేందుకు మనకు శాంతిని ఇస్తాడు.

11వ వచనంలో ప్రభువు నడిపిస్తున్నాడని, తృప్తి పరుస్తాడని మరియు బలపరుస్తాడని మనం కనుగొన్నాము.

 

●      నడిపించే దేవుడు: ఆయన మనలను సరైన మార్గంలో నడిపిస్తాడు, మన సంచరించే ఆత్మలను తన చెంతకు నడిపించి, మోక్షానికి దారితీసే అతని మార్గంలో నడవడానికి మనల్ని నడిపిస్తాడు. పవిత్ర గ్రంధం, ప్రార్థన, మన పరిస్థితులు, మనస్సాక్షి వంటి అనేక మార్గాలు ద్వారా  ఆయన మనలను నడిపిస్తారు. (కీర్తన 37:33, యెహెఙ్కేల్ 36:26-27)

మోషేను నడిపించిన కథ, ఈ విషయంలో ఒక గొప్ప ఉదాహరణ.

 

●      సంతృప్తి పరిచే నాధుడు : అతను మన సకల అవసరాలను, కోరికలను తీర్చే నాధుడు. ప్రపంచం మనకు ఒక విషయం నేర్పుతుంది బలమైన కోరిక ఏర్పడేలా, అన్నిటికోసం ప్రాకులాడుతాం హోదా, కీర్తి,ఉద్యోగం, ఇల్లు, వస్తువులు, వ్యక్తులు, డబ్బు మరియు అనేక ఇతర ఆకర్షణీయమైన వస్తువులు కోసం. ఒకదాని తరవాత ఒకటి పోగుచేసుకోవడం. ఉన్నదానితో సంతృప్తి చెందాము, కోరికలు పేరుకుపోతాయి. ఇటువంటి  ఆధ్యాత్మిక అనారోగ్యానికి రోగ నిర్ధారణ లేదని తెలుస్తోంది. కానీ ఒక క్షణం ఆగి, కాసేపు ఆగి, భగవంతుని వైపు తిరిగి, భగవంతుని కోసం తాపత్రయ పడితే, ఆ ఆశే మారుస్తుంది. అందుకే పునీత అగస్టీన్ గారు అంటారు  "ఓ ప్రభూ, నీవు మమ్మల్ని నీ కోసం చేసుకున్నావు, మరియు మా హృదయం నీలో ఉండే వరకు విశ్రాంతి లేకుండా ఉంటుంది." క్రీస్తు యొక్క వ్యక్తిత్వం ఇప్పుడు మనం వెతుకుతున్న ప్రతిదాన్ని తీరుస్తుంది. కీర్తనలు 16:11 నీ సన్నిధిలో సంపూర్ణ సంతోషము కలదు; నీ కుడి వైపున ఎప్పటికీ ఆనందాలు ఉంటాయి. (కీర్తన 16:11) మరియు యేసు వారితో, “నేను జీవపు రొట్టె; నా దగ్గరకు వచ్చేవారికి ఆకలి వేయదు మరియు నన్ను విశ్వసించేవారికి ఎప్పుడూ దాహం వేయదు. (యోహాను  6:35.)

క్రీస్తు మనందరినీ తన ప్రేమలో చేర్చుకుంటాడు, మనల్ని విలువైనవారముగా  మరియు ప్రత్యేకమైనవారీగా భావిస్తాడు, అతనిలో వివక్ష మరియు నిర్లక్ష్యం లేదు, అందుకే అతను అందరి కోసం మరణించాడు. భౌతికంగా, మానసికంగా మరియు ఆధ్యాత్మికంగా ఆయన తన మాటలతో మనల్ని సంతృప్తిపరుస్తారు. ఈ నాటి సువార్త గొప్ప ఉదాహరణ, క్రీస్తు  విందులో లేవీ మరియు అతని స్నేహితుల ఆధ్యాత్మిక ఆకలిని తీర్చాడు.

●      బలపరిచే బలాఢ్యుడు :

దేవుడు మనల్ని బలపరుస్తాడు, మనం జీవితం లో చాలా ఒత్తిడిని అనుభవిస్తాము, బాధ్యతల నుండి ఒత్తిళ్లు, సవాళ్లు మరియు దీని కారణంగా చాలా మంది నిరాశ చెందుతూ ఉంటారు, కానీ మన బలహీనత, ఆందోళనలలో మనం క్రీస్తుని ఆశ్రయించినప్పుడు మరియు అతను మనల్ని శారీరకంగా, మానసికంగా బలపరుస్తాడు. పునీత పాల్ గారు ఈ విధంగా అంటారు "నన్ను బలపరిచే క్రీస్తు ద్వారా నేను అన్ని పనులు చేయగలనని చెప్పాడు. (ఫిలి. 4:13) " అతను తన దయ, సన్నిధి, ప్రేమ, రక్షణ మరియు శక్తితో మనలను బలపరుస్తాడు. మనకు తెలియని  పరిస్థితులను ఎదుర్కొన్నప్పుడు, మన మార్గంలో ఇబ్బందులు, అడ్డంకులు మరియు బాధాకరమైన పరిస్థితులు మరియు ఊహించని విషయాలు ఎదురైనప్పుడు మనం దేవునికి  సమర్పించినట్లైతే కచ్చితంగా బలపరుస్తారు, కానీ మనం సాధారణంగా మనల్ని బలపరిచే దేవుని దృష్టిని కోల్పోతాము మరియు బలం కోసం వేరే వాటిని ఆశ్రయిస్తాము. . "ప్రభువు తో ఏకమై, అయన మహా శక్తి ద్వారా మీ బలమును అభివృద్ధి చేసుకోండి!" (ఎఫె. 6:10). ఓదార్చడానికి మరియు బలపరచడానికి దేవుడు ఇక్కడ మనతో ఉన్నాడు.

 

2.  పునరుద్ధరణ :

 

11వ వచనం లోప్రభువు విరిగిన గోడలను పునర్నిర్మించాలని, పునరుద్ధరించాలని మరియు మరమ్మత్తు చేయాలని కోరుకుంటున్నాడని సూచిస్తుంది. ఇది కేవలం గోడలు మాత్రమే కాదు, విరిగిన హృదయంతో ఉన్నవ్యక్తులను, వారి జీవితాలను  మరియు సంఘాలను పునర్నిర్మించాలని/పునరుద్ధరించాలని/మరమ్మత్తు చేయాలని అతను కోరుకుంటున్నాడు. ప్రజలు కేవలం మతపరమైన కార్యక్రమాలను మాత్రమే పాటిస్తూ, ఉపవాసాలను కేవలం పైపైన మాత్రమే పాటిస్తూ, తమను తాము మంచి, అంకితభావం కలిగిన వ్యక్తులుగా చూపించుకుంటున్నారు కానీ నిజానికి వారి హృదయాల్లో వారు మంచితనానికి దూరంగా ఉన్నారు. వారు వారి హృదయాలలో విరిగిపోయారు, వేసారి ఉన్నారు.

తన ప్రజల పట్ల శ్రద్ధ వహించే ప్రేమగల మరియు దయగల దేవుడు తన క్షమాపణ మరియు షరతులు లేని ప్రేమ ద్వారా వారిని పునర్నిర్మించాలని కోరుకుంటాడు.

అతను దూరమైన మరియు కోల్పోయిన వ్యక్తులను పునరుద్ధరించాలనుకుంటున్నాడు; అతను విరిగిన నలిగినా హృదయాన్ని నయం చేస్తాడు మరియు అతనితో మరియు మరొకరితో కోల్పోయిన  సంబంధాన్ని పునర్నిర్మిస్తాడు.

దేవుని ప్రజల యొక్క బాధ్యత కూడా  ప్రభువు యొక్క ఉదాహరణ అనుసరించి  విరిగిన వాటిని బాగుచేసేవారు, పునరుద్ధరించేవారు మరియు పునర్నిర్మించేవారు అని పిలుస్తారు.

అతను నా ఆత్మను పునరుద్ధరించాడు. ఆయన తన నామము కొరకు నన్ను నీతిమార్గములలో నడిపించును (కీర్తనలు 23:3).ప్రభువు విరిగిన హృదయముగలవారికి సమీపముగా ఉన్నాడు మరియు నలిగిన ఆత్మను రక్షించును (కీర్తనలు 34:18).

యెహెజ్కేలు 36:26 లో అతను కొత్త హృదయాన్ని మరియు కొత్త ఆత్మను ఇచ్చాడని చెప్పబడింది. దేవుడు మనల్ని పునరుద్ధరిస్టార్  ఎందుకంటే మనం ఇప్పటికీ ఆయనకు సంబంధించిన వారమే , అతను తప్పిపోయిన కుమారుని  కథలో తండ్రి వలె మన కోసం ఎదురు చూస్తున్నాడు.

 

3. విమోచన :

ప్రభువు ఆదుకుంటాడు మరియు పునరుద్ధరించాడు మరియు చివరకు అతను విముక్తిని దయచేస్తాడు. విముక్తి చేయడం అంటే విక్రయించిన లేదా ఇచ్చిన వాటిని తిరిగి కొనుగోలు చేయడం.  పాపం మరియు ప్రస్తుతం మన వ్యక్తిగత పాపాల కారణంగా మనం దేవుని నుండి దూరంగా తిరుగుతున్నాము, మన హృదయాలను, మనస్సులను మరియు ఆత్మలను చెడు కార్యకలాపాలకు, విపరీతమైన ఆనందాలకు అమ్ముకున్నాము, మన స్వంత సృష్టికి (సాంకేతికత, కంటికి ఇంపుగా ఉండేవి) బానిసలుగా మారాము. కానీ యేసు మనలను విడిపించాడు మరియు విమోచించాడు. తన రక్తంతో మనల్ని కొన్నాడు. ఆ విధంగా అతను తన కృపతో మనలను అన్ని విధ్వంసక, వినాశక బంధాల నుండి తన నిర్మాణాత్మక స్వభావం మరియు  ఆయన తన కృపతో మనకు ప్రసాదించాడు.

పాత నిబంధనలో యోసేపు  యొక్క కథ, అతను విక్రయించబడినప్పుడు ప్రభువు అతని ఆదరించాడు, అతని హృదయం  ఎండిన  స్థితిలో  ఉన్నపుడు ఆదరించి, విదేశీ దేశంలో తన స్థితిని పునరుద్ధరించాడు మరియు అతను పాపం యొక్క అన్ని విధ్వంసక సందర్భాల నుండి విమోచించబడ్డాడు. తరువాత దేవుడు అతనిని తన సహోదరుల కొరకు తన కుటుంబానికి విమోచకునిగా చేసాడు.

సుంకరులు తమతో కూర్చోవడం వల్ల వారి స్థితి తగ్గిపోతుందని, వారు పాపులుగా ఉన్నందున వారు అపవిత్రులు అవుతారని పరిసయ్యులు భావించారు, కానీ యేసు భిన్నంగా బోధించాడు, తన విందు  అందించడం ద్వారా అతను అపవిత్రుడు కాదు, బదులుగా వారు సుంకరులు మారారు. పరిసయ్యులు వారిని పాపులుగా చూశారు కానీ యేసు శిష్యుడిగా ఉండగల సామర్థ్యాన్ని, తన ప్రేమను పంచుకునే అవకాశాన్ని, వారి  జీవితాన్ని పునర్నిర్మించే అవకాశాన్ని చూశాడు. మన సన్నిధి అతని పవిత్రతను ప్రభావితం చేయదు, బదులుగా అది మనలను పవిత్రతకు నడిపిస్తుంది. ప్రభువు ఎల్లప్పుడూ మనతో కూర్చోవాలని, మనతో టేబుల్ పంచుకోవాలని, మనతో సహవాసంలోకి ప్రవేశించాలని కోరుకుంటాడు, తద్వారా మన బలహీనతలో మనం అతని బలం ద్వారా బయటపడవచ్చు మరియు మన అనేక వైఫల్యాలలో మనం అతని మంచితనం మరియు ప్రేమ నుండి శక్తి ని  పొందగలము.

 

యేసు సువార్తలో మాట్లాడుతూ "నేను నీతిమంతులను పిలుచుటకు రాలేదు హృదయ పరివర్తన పొందుటకై పాపులను పిలవడానికి వచ్చాను." . అని తన ఉద్దేశం వెల్లడి చేసారు, ఇది పాపులను చేరదీయడం (మనందరం) మరియు వారిని విముక్తికి నడిపించడం. ఈ విషయంలో ఎటువంటి వివక్ష లేదు, వైద్యుని  మరియు రక్షకుని  అవసరమైన రోగుల మరియు పాపుల కోసం అతను వచ్చాడు. అతను లేవీని పిలిచాడు మరియు అతని ద్వారా  ఈ రోజు మనలను పిలుస్తున్నాడు. ఆయన ఈరోజు మన పాపపు పట్టిక నుండి (మనకు పాపం చేయుటకు కారణమయ్యేది) క్షమాపణ యొక్క టేబుల్ విందుకి, ప్రత్యేకించి దివ్యాసప్రసాదముకు/దివ్య పూజకు  ఆహ్వానిస్తున్నాడు.

 

యెషయా 11వ వచనంలో ఇలా అంటున్నాడు, మీరు నీరు కట్టిన తోట వలె కళకళలాడుదురు. వట్టిపోని చెలామ వలె ఒప్పుదురు.  మనం ఆయనతో ఉన్నప్పుడు దేవునిలో మనకు ఏమీ లోటు ఉండదు. దివ్య సప్రసాదం  పీఠం  ఈ ఆధ్యాత్మిక దీవెనలన్నింటినీ ప్రసాదిస్తుంది. యేసు సన్నిధి లేవీ మరియు అతని కుటుంబ సభ్యులకు సంతోషాన్ని కలిగించింది, బదులుగా అతను తన స్నేహితులను యేసు వద్దకు ఆహ్వానించాడు, అక్కడే అపొస్తలుడయ్యాడు. అతను ఆనందాన్ని పంచుకున్నాడు, అతను యేసు ఉనికిని పంచుకున్నాడు. యేసు సన్నిధితో, అతను మరియు అతని స్నేహితులు బాగా నీరు ఉన్న తోటలా ఉన్నారు. కాబట్టి మనం గుర్తుంచుకుందాం,

దివ్య సప్రసాదం  అనేది  ఆనంద పీఠం  - లేవి మరియు అతని స్నేహితులు యేసు సమక్షంలో అనుభవించారు;

దివ్య సప్రసాదం  అనేది అంగీకార పీఠం  - వివక్ష లేదు, అందరూ ఆహ్వానించబడ్డారు

దివ్య సప్రసాదం   క్షమాపణ పీఠం  - మన పాపాలు అతని సమక్షంలో క్షమించబడతాయి.

దివ్య సప్రసాదం అనేది ఐక్యత  పీఠం  - దేవునితో మరియు ఇతరులతో.

దివ్య సప్రసాదం   అనేది సకల వనరుల /అనుగ్రహాల కేంద్రం   - మనలో శక్తిని పునరుద్ధరిస్తుంది

Dear friends in Christ, The gospel presents to us the call of Levi and his response to that call.  He got up, left everything,  and followed him. When he heard “follow me”, immediately got up, he was ready to move and obey Jesus and left everything, his identity, financial security, his job, his sinful life, his present situation everything at once and followed Jesus , he was ready to change his life style because following Jesus involves a change of lifestyle (walking away from unwanted life styles, habits, people)  involves commitment and sacrifice. There will be change of name, work, direction and he is ready to move forward with Jesus ( taking up his cross) and sits with Jesus at the banquet table of Jesus forgiveness, embracing a new lifestyle.

 

Levi, Later called Mathew, got up/moved from a table of Sin, which was leading him to bondages, destruction to a TABLE OF FORGIVENESS/JOY, rebuilding his life. 

The call of Levi reminds us that there are plenty of  spiritual rewards and benefits for following the path of the Lord.

We find the blessing in the first reading especially Is 58:11-12 explains what it means to follow God and be with him:Then the LORD will guide you always and give you plenty even on the parched land. He will renew your strength, and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails. The ancient ruins shall be rebuilt for your sake, and the foundations for ages past you shall raise up; ""Repairer of the breach,"" they shall call you, ""Restorer of ruined homesteads." 

There are more blessings however From the first reading and Gospel we can reflect at least Three blessings:

1. He Sustains  : the Lord sustains and nurtures us by leading, satisfying and strengthening.  The people who experience that there is no one for them, experience  a kind of dryness in their souls and wearied from all the tensions and worries of this world, the lord promises them sustenance. (Psalm 55:22 and Isaiah 46:3-5) and he sustains us by providing us with the necessities, rest in his care, gives us peace to calm our disturbed souls.

In verse 11 we find that the Lord leads, satisfies and strengthens. 

●      He leads us on the right path, gathers our wandering souls and guides us to tread on his path which leads to salvation. There are many ways that he can lead us, like scripture, prayer, circumstances, our conscience. (Psalm 37:33, Ezek 36:26-27)

The story of leading Moses for His purpose, a great example in this respect.

●      He satisfies our craving souls. We all know that the world craves for more and more, never being satisfied with what one holds, be it status, fame, a job, home, things, people, money and various other fascinating things and it's restless to accumulate one after the other. Well, it appears that there is no diagnosis for the spiritual illness. But take a moment, pause for a while, turn to the Lord, try craving for the Lord, it changes everything. That’s why St.Augustine states “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” His personality changes everything we are looking for now. Psalm 16:11 states In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11) and Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35.)

He includes us all in his love, considers us valuable and unique, there is no discrimination and disregard in him, that’s why he died for all. He satisfies us with his words, physically, psychological and spiritual. The gospel of the is great example, He satisfied the spiritual hunger of Levi and his friends in the banquet.

●      He strengthens us , we experience a lot of stress, pressures from responsibilities, challenges and due this many are on the brink of losing hope but when we turn to him in our weakness, anxieties and he strengthens us physically, psychologically. St. Paul  says I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.(Phil. 4:13) he strengthens us with his grace, presence,love, protection and power. We are supposed to entrust to him when we face situations we don't understand, when we encounter difficulties, hurdles in our way and painful situations and unexpected things, but we usually lose sight of God who strengthens us and turn to other sources for strength. "Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might!" (Eph. 6:10). God is with us here to comfort and strengthen.

2. He Restores us :

The verse 11 signifies that the Lord wants to rebuild, restore and repair the broken walls. It is not just the walls in fact he wants to rebuild/restore/repair the broken people and communities. The people were only observing the religious activities, keeping the fast only superficially and they are just presenting themselves as good, devoted people but in fact in their hearts they are far from goodness. They are broken in their hearts.

a loving and merciful God who cares for his people wishes to rebuild them through his forgiveness and unconditional love.

He wants to restore people who are lost; He heals the broken hearted and rebuild the broken relationship with him and with another.

That’s the Church/People is called the repairer, restorer and rebuilder of the broken after the example of the Lord.

He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake (Psalm 23:3).The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

Ezekiel 36:26 it is stated that he gives a new heart and new spirit. He restores us because we are still the family, he awaits for us like the Father in the story of Prodigal son.

 

3. He Redeems us:

The lord sustains, and restores and finally he leads to redemption. To redeem is to buy back what was sold or given away. Because of original sin and our at present personal sins we have been wandering away from him, sold our hearts, minds and souls to evil activities, inordinate pleasures, we have become slaves to our own creation (technology, things pleasing to the eyes). But Jesus freed and redeemed us. He bought us with his blood. Thus he transformed completely us in his grace from all the destructive bondages to His constructive nature and grace. He imparted us with his grace.

The story of Joseph in the Old Testament, the Lord sustained when he was sold, he was in a dry state and restored his status in a foreign land through his gift of interpretation and he was redeemed from all the destructive occasions of Sin. later God made him the redeemer of his family, for his brothers.

Pharisees thought sitting with them diminishes their status, they become defiled because they are sinners but Jesus taught differently, by offering his banquet table he is not defiled instead they are transformed. The Pharisees saw in them as sinners but Jesus saw a potential to be a disciple, an opportunity to share his love, an opportunity to rebuild his life. Our presence does not affect his holiness rather in return it leads us to Holiness. The Lord always desires to sit with us, to share table with us, to enter into communion with us, in order that in our weakness we might draw from his strength, and in our many failings we might draw from his goodness and love.

 

Jesus responds in the Gospel “I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.” . His mission is clear, it’s to reach out to sinners ( which includes all of us) and lead them to redemption. There is no discrimination in this regard, he came for us the sick and sinners who are in need of a healer and saviour. He called Levi and is calling us today to his spiritual benefits. He is inviting us today from our table of sin (whatever is causing us to sin) to a table banquet of forgiveness, especially the Eucharist.

 

Isaiah says in verse 11, You will be like a well-watered garden,  like a spring whose waters never fail. We lack nothing in God when we are with him. The eucharistic table bestows all these spiritual blessings. The presence of Jesus brought joy to Levi and his family, in return he invited his friends to Jesus, became an apostle there itself. He shared the joy, he shared the presence of Jesus. With the presence of Jesus, he and his friends were like a well -watered garden. Let us remember therefore,

The Eucharist is a table of Joy - Levi and his friends experience in the presence of Jesus;The The Eucharist is a table of acceptance - No discrimination , all are invited

The Eucharist is a table of Forgiveness - our sins are forgiven in his presence.

The Eucharist is a table of communion - with God and with others.

The Eucharist is a table of recharge - restores power in us
