మ్రానికొమ్మల ఆదివారం

యెషయా 50: 4-7

ఈరోజు తల్లి శ్రీసభ మ్రానికొమ్మల ఆదివారంను కొనియాడుచున్నది. దీనినే క్రీస్తుపాటులు ఆదివారం అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు. ప్రతి ఒక్కరి జీవితంలో సంతోష సమయాలు కొన్నివుంటాయి. ఈ మ్రానికొమ్మల రోజు కూడా ప్రభువు యొక్క జీవితంలో ప్రత్యేకమైనది, సంతోషకరమైనది  ఎందుకంటే ప్రజలు ఆయన్ను రాజుగా గుర్తించి 'హోసన్నా' పాడారు. ప్రతి ఒక్కరి జీవితంలో సంతోషాన్ని అనుభవించినట్లే తరచుగా దుఃఖాన్ని గూడు పొందుతుంటాం. విచారం కలిగినట్లే ఆనందం కూడా కలుగుతుంది. 

ఈ రోజు మనందరం పవిత్ర వారంలోకి అడుగుపెడుతున్నాం/ ప్రవేశిస్తున్నాం. మన యొక్కా రక్షణ సంఘటనలు ధ్యానించుకోబోతున్నాం. యేసు ప్రభువు యొక్క రక్షణ ఘట్టాలను ధ్యానించుకోబోతున్నాం. ఆయన యొక్క సిలువ శ్రమలు మరణం పునరుత్తానం అదే విధంగా క్రీస్తుతో మన మరణ, పునరుత్తనాలు కూడా ధ్యానించుకోవాలి.

ఈ పవిత్ర వారం యొక్క ఘట్టాలు మనం శ్రద్ధగా ధ్యానిస్తే మనకు దేవునితో వున్నసంబంధం పెరుగుతుంది. దేవునిలో వున్న విశ్వాసం పెరుగుతుంది. దేవుని పట్ల ప్రేమ పెరుగుతుంది. మనలో కూడా హృదయ పరివర్తనం కలుగుతుంది. ప్రభువు నా కోసమే మరణించారు అనే  ఆలోచన మన జీవితాలను మార్చుతుంది.

ఈ మ్రానికొమ్మల ఆదివారం రోజుల రెండు ముఖ్యమైన సంఘటనలు చోటు చేసుకుంటున్నాయి.

1.  ఆయన మహిమా సంఘటన

2.  ఆయన శ్రమల సంఘటన

మహిమా సంఘటన ఏమనగా ప్రజలు ప్రభువును రాజుగా గుర్తించి ఆయన్ను యెరూషలేముకు ప్రేమతో ఆహ్వానించారు. శ్రమల సంఘటన ఏమనగా ప్రభువును ద్రోహిగా నిందించి ఆయన్ను సిలువవేయుటకు పన్నాగం చేయుట.

ఒకటి సంతోషంకరమైనది రెండవది భాధాకరమైనది. మన శరీరంలో రక్తం నీరు ఎలాగైతే కలసివుంటాయో మన యొక్క జీవితంలో కూడా బాధ, సంతోషం కలసివుంటాయి. ఈరోజు మ్రానికొమ్మలతో ప్రదక్షణలో వచ్చే సమయంలో ఒక సువిశేష భాగం చదువుతాం, పూజలో శ్రమల వృతాంతం చదువుతాం. యేసు ప్రభువు అనేకసార్లు యెరూషలేము వెళ్లారు కానీ అన్ని సార్లు ఆయనకు ఆంత గొప్ప ఆహ్వానం ఇవ్వలేదు. కేవలం ఈ రోజున మాత్రమే వారు గుర్తిస్తున్నారు.

యేసు ప్రభువు పేదవారి పట్ల పోరాడిన విధానం, వారి పక్షమున నిలబడి వారికోసం జీవించే విధానం ప్రజల్లో ఒక నమ్మికను కలుగజేసింది. ఇతడు మాకోసం జీవిస్తాడు. అధికార బంధముల నుండి మమ్మల్ని విడిపిస్తాడు అనే ఆలోచన, నమ్మకం వారిలో కలిగింది.

ఈనాటి మొదటి పఠనంలో బాధామయ సేవకుని యొక్క జీవితం గురించి చదువుకున్నాం. యెషయా గ్రంధంలో  40 -  55 అధ్యాయాలలో నాలుగు బాధామయ సేవకుని గీతాలు మనం వింటున్నాం.  ఈనాటి మొదటి పఠనం 3 గీతం గురించి చదువుకుంటున్నాం.  క్రీస్తుపూర్వం 7 వ శతాబ్దంలో దేవుడు యెషయాను ప్రవక్తగా నియమించారు.

సోలోమోను రాజు తరువాత యిస్రాయేలు రెండుగా విభజించబడింది ప్రతి ఒక్క రాజ్యంకు వారి వారి ప్రవక్తలు, నాయకులు, మత పెద్దలు ఉండేవారు. యెషయా ప్రవక్త యెరూషలేములో పనిచేసిన ప్రవక్త . ఆయన అనేక మంది రాజులకు దేవుని యొక్క ప్రవచనాలు తెలిపారు. ఆయన కాలంలో అస్సిరియులు యిస్రాయేలును నాశనం చేసిన దానిని ఆయన కనులారా చూశాడు. అలాగే అస్సిరియులు యూదా మీదకు యుద్ధముకు రావటం చూశాడు. అప్పుడు హిజ్కియా రాజును లొంగిపోవద్దు అని తెలిపారు, దేవునికి ప్రార్ధించి ముప్పు తొలగించారు.

యెషయా ప్రవక్త ఈ సేవకుని యొక్క గీతము వ్రాసేటప్పుడు ఆయన మనస్సులో వున్నది ఇద్దరు వ్యక్తులు

2 మెస్సయ్యా

మెస్సయ్యా తాను అందరికోసం శ్రమలు అనుభవించి మరణిస్తారని ముందుగానే ప్రవక్త ప్రవచించారు అందుకే అంటారు ప్రవక్తలు ప్రవచనాలు నిజమేనని.

యిస్రాయేలు ప్రజలు కూడా తమ యొక్క జీవితంలో సేవకుల వలే బానిసత్వంలో అనేక శ్రమలు అనుభంవించారు. మరీ ముఖ్యంగా బాధామయ సేవకుని జీవితం  మెస్సయ్యా గురించి ఉద్దేశించబడినది.

ఈనాటి మొదటి  పఠనంలో రెండుభాగాలున్నాయి

1.  సేవకునికి అప్పజెప్పిన బాధ్యత

2. సేవకుని యొక్క త్యాగ జీవితం

సేవకునికి అప్పజెప్పిన బాధ్యత ఏమిటంటే ప్రకటించుట, బోధించుట దేవుని యొక్క రాజ్యం  గురించి, దేవుని ప్రేమ గురించి, ఆయన క్షమ గురించి రక్షణ గురించి ప్రకటించే శక్తిని దయచేశారు. ఆయన అలసిపోయిన వారికి ఓదార్పు దయచేస్తారు. మత్తయి 11 : 28

బాధలలో, కష్టాలలో, నిరాశలో, జీవితంలో అన్ని  సమస్యలు పడే వారిని దేవుడు ఈ సేవకుని ద్వారా ఓదార్చుతున్నారు. సహాయంలేని వారికి ఒక సహాయంగా ఉండుటకు ఎన్నుకొనబడినారు. ప్రేమలేని వారికి ప్రేమను పంచుటానికి ఎన్నుకొనబడిననారు. జీవితంలో ఆశలు కోల్పోయిన వారికి ధైర్యం నిచ్చుటకు ఈ సేవకుడు ఓదార్పును దయ చేస్తాడు.  సేవకుడు తన జీవితంలో దేవునికి  ఎప్పుడూ అడ్డు చెప్పలేదు. ఆయన తండ్రి చిత్తము నెరవేర్చుటకు వచ్చియున్నారు. హెబ్రీ 10 : 7 , 5 : 8 .

ఆయన మరణం వరకు తండ్రికి అడ్డు చెప్పలేదు ఫిలిప్పి 2 : 8 .  ఆయన మాటను ఎల్లప్పుడూ నెరవేర్చారు. తనకు అప్పజెప్పిన పరిచర్య బాధ్యత సక్రమంగా నెరవేర్చాడు ఈ సేవకుడు.

రెండవ భాగంలో తన యొక్క సేవక బాధ్యతలు నెరవేర్చుటలో ఈ సేవకుడు ఎంతగానో శ్రమలను అనుభవించాడు, నిందలు భరించాడు. ఆయనను మొదువారికి వీపును అప్పగించారు అని 6 వ వచనంలో చెప్పబడింది అంటే ఎన్ని దెబ్బలైన భరించటానికి తనను తాను సమర్పించుకున్నారు. ఆయన ఎవ్వరికీ ఎదురు చెప్పలేదు మౌనంగా భరించాడు.

ఆయన గడ్డపు వెంట్రుకలు లాగేసారు, ఉమ్మివేసారు, ఆవమానించారు. ఇవన్నీ కూడా భరించటానికి కష్టం అయినా భరిస్తున్నారు. ఇది కేవలం ప్రేమ వలనే సాధ్యం. ప్రేమ సమస్తమును భరించును 1  కొరింతి 13 : 7 .

·         యేసుప్రభువు యొక్క జీవితంలో ఇవన్నీ జరిగాయి, ఆయన వస్త్రములు లాగారు. యెహాను 19 : 23 .

·         ఆయన మొహం మీద ఉమ్మివేశారు. మత్తయి 26 : 67

·         ఆయన్ను కొరడాలతో కొట్టారు. మార్కు 15 : 15 , యోహాను 19 : 1 .

ఇన్ని రకాలైన అవమానాలు తాను ఎదుర్కొన్నప్పటికీ ఆయన కృంగిపోలేదు, పారిపోలేదు అన్ని సహనంతో భరించాడు. ఇంత భాధలు పొంది వాటిని భరించాలంటే నిజంగా దైవశక్తి మనకు అవసరం.  బాధామయ సేవకుడు తండ్రిమీద వున్న గాఢమైన ప్రేమ వలన అదేవిధంగా తన ప్రజలను కాపాడాలనే ఉద్దేశం వలన ఎంతో భాధను భరించాడు. ఒక క్రొవొత్తి తాను కరుగుతూ ఎలాగైతే ఇతరులకు వెలుగునిస్తుందో అదే విధంగా ఈ సేవకుడు తన జీవితం, ప్రాణత్యాగం చేస్తూ ఇతరులకు రక్షణనిచ్చాడు.

రెండవ పఠనంలో పునీత పౌలుగారు యేసు ప్రభువు యొక్క సేవా జీవితం గురించి తెలుపుచున్నారు. యేసు ప్రభువు తండ్రి,  పవిత్రాత్మతో  అన్నింటిలోనూ సరిసమానంగా ఉన్నప్పటికీ తనను తాను తగ్గించుకొని జీవించారు. ఈ వాక్యాలలో పౌలు గారు దేవుని యొక్క వినయ జీవితం  గురించి మాట్లాడుతున్నారు. ఎవరు కూడా ఆయన వలే తగ్గించుకొని జీవించలేదు.

ఆయన దేవుడు అయినా మనిషిగా మన మధ్య జన్మించారు. పరలోకంలో జీవించే దేవుడు భూలోకంలో జీవించుటకు ఇష్టపడ్డారు. పరలోక మహిమను విడిచిపెట్టారు. భూలోక సిలువను మోశారు. పవిత్రమైన పరలోకంలో జీవించే దేవుడు పాపమలినం శోకిన ప్రజలు మధ్యకు వచ్చారు. అధికారం కలిగినప్పటికీ  అణిగిమణిగి వినయంతో జీవించారు.

ఆయన దేవుడే అయినప్పటికిని అన్నీ విడిచిపెట్టారు. మన మధ్యకు వచ్చారు ఫిలిప్పి 2 : 7 .

- సేవించబడాల్సిన దేవుడు సేవచేస్తున్నారు

- ప్రేమించబడాల్సిన దేవుడు మన మంచికై అని చేస్తున్నారు

- మనం ఎవరికోసం, ఎవరి రాక కోసం ఎదురు చూడాలో ఆయనే మనం కోసం ఎదురు చూస్తున్నారు.  మనం వెదికే దేవుడు మన కోసం వెదకుచున్నారు.

ఆయన అన్నింటిని త్యజించుకుని మన మధ్యకు వచ్చి జీవించారు. యేసు ప్రభువు అంతటి వినయమును చూపుతూ మన మధ్యలో  జీవించి తన  ప్రాణత్యాగం చేశారు. ఆయన స్వార్ధం వెదకలేదు సేవకుని వలే జీవించి  అంత దేవుని కొరకు ప్రజల కొరకు చేశారు.

యేసు ప్రభువు తండ్రి మాత్రమే  కాదు వినయం చూపినది మానవులకు, అధికారులకు వినయం చిపించారు. తనను హింసించిన వారికి,  చంపిన వారికి కూడా ప్రభువు వినయం చూపించారు.  ఆయనకు అధికారం ఉంది, ఆయన  సృష్టికర్త  అయినా కానీ అంతటి వినయం చూపించారు. యెహాను 10 : 18 , రోమి 5 19, హెబ్రీ 10 : 9

వినయం వలన ప్రాణత్యాగం చేశారు తనను తాను తగ్గించుకొని నిందలు మోశారు. తనను తాను  తగ్గించుకొని శత్రువుల చేతికి అప్పగింపబడినారు. తనను తాను తగ్గించుకొని అందరి పాపాలు తన మీద మోసుకున్నారు.

తనను తాను తగ్గించుకొని సిలువ భారం మోశారు, ఘోరమైన సిలువ మీద మరణం అంగీకరించారు. ఆయన పాపరహితుడైనప్పటికీ మన పాపాలకోసం అన్నీ భరించారు, మనల్ని రక్షించారు - 2  కొరింతి  5 : 12 , గలతి 3 : 13 , 1  పేతురు 2 : 24 , 1  పేతురు  3 : 18 .

యేసు ప్రభువు తన్ను తాను రిక్తుని  చేసుకున్నారు కాబట్టి తండ్రి కుమారుడిని అంతగా  సన్మానించారు.  చివరి వరకు సంపూర్ణ విధేయతను, వినయంను  చూపిన కుమారుడ్ని తండ్రి మిక్కిలిగా ప్రేమించారు. ఆయనకు సమస్తము ఇచ్చియున్నారు. ఎఫెసీ 1 : 22 , 1  పేతురు 3 : 22 , రోమా 14 : 11 .

 మనం ఒకరి ముందు తలవంచటానికి ఇష్టపడం కానీ యేసు ప్రభువు వినయంతో అందరిముందు తనను తాను తగ్గించుకొని జీవించారు.

ఈనాటి సువిశేష పఠనంలో ప్రభువు యొక్క సిలువ శ్రమలు ధ్యానించుకుంటున్నాం. ఈ రోజు ముఖ్యంగా మనందరం ధ్యానించుకోవాల్సిన అంశం ఏమిటంటే యేసు ప్రభువును ప్రజలు రాజుగా గుర్తించారు.

యేసు ప్రభువు చాలాసార్లు యెరూషలేము దేవాలయంకు వెళ్లారు. కానీ ఈ సమయంలో ఆయన్ను గొప్పగా ఆహ్వానించారు. 

ప్రభువు యెరూషలేమునకు వెళ్లిన సమయాలు:

1.       యెరూషలేము దేవాలయమును శుభ్రం చేసిన సమయం - యోహాను 2 : 13

2.       యెరూషలేములో కోనేటి వద్ద స్వస్థత నిచ్చినప్పుడు - యోహాను 5 :1

3.       యెరూషలేములో ఆయన దేవుని కుమారుడని ప్రకటించినవేళ - యెహాను 7 : 16 -17

4.       జీవజలపు ఊట అని చెప్పినప్పుడు - యోహాను 7 : 37 -39

5.       లోకానికి వెలుగు అని చెప్పినప్పుడు కూడా ప్రభువు యెరూషలేములో వున్నారు- యోహాను 8 : 12 , 9 : 5

ఇలా చాలా సందర్భాలలో ప్రభువు యెరూషలేములోని ఉన్నారు. కానీ ఇప్పుడు దానికి ప్రత్యేకత ఉంది.

ప్రభువు ఈ లోకంలో తండ్రి క్రియలు నెరవేర్చారు, అద్భుతాలు చేశారు. 

యూదుల విశ్వసం పెంచటానికి 7  అద్భుతాలు చేశారు.

1.       1. నీటిని ద్రాక్షారసముగా మార్చారు - యోహాను 2: 1-11

2.      2.  ప్రభుత్వ ఉద్యోగి కుమారునికి స్వస్థతనిచ్చుట  - యోహాను 4: 46-54

3.      3.  బేత్సయిదా వద్ద పక్షవాత రోగికి స్వస్థతనిచ్చుట - యోహాను 5: 1-15

4.      4.  5000 మందికి ఆహారం పెట్టుట - యోహాను 6: 5-14

5.       5.  నీటిమీద నడచుట - యోహాను 6: 16-24

6.       6. పుట్టు గ్రుడ్డివానికి చూపును దయచేయుట - యోహాను 9: 1-7

7.       7.  లాజరును జీవంతో లేపుట – యోహాను 11: 1-45

ఇవన్నీ చేసిన తరువాత ప్రజలయొక్క ఆత్మ విశ్వాసం  పెరిగింది. ఆ కాలంలో ప్రభువు బలహీనులపట్ల, ప్రజల పట్ల పోరాడుచున్నారు కాబట్టి ఇతడు నిజంగా ప్రజల కోసం వచ్చారని, ప్రజల సమస్యలనుండి కాపాడుతారని నమ్మకం.

అందుకే ఆయన్ను రాజును చేయాలనుకున్నారు.  ఆయనయే తమ రాజాని ఆయన్ను స్తుతించారు. మాకోసం నిలబడే వ్యక్తి అని మాకోసమే పుట్టిన ప్రభువు అని అందరూ భావించారు. అందుకే ఆయన తమ యొక్క రాజాని గుర్తించారు. ఆ సందర్భంలోనే ఆయన్ను ఘనంగా ఆహ్వానించారు.

ప్రజలు యేసుప్రభువునకు హోసాన్నా పాడారు.  హోసాన్న అనగా 'మమ్ము ఇప్పుడు రక్షించు' అని అర్ధం. ఆయన వారిని రక్షిస్తాడని తెలుసుకున్నారు. పాపములనుండి రక్షిస్తాడని తెలుసుకొని రక్షించామన్నారు. అదేవిధంగా ఈ లోక బంధములనుండి, అధికారుల క్రిందనుండి రక్షించమని కోరారు. ఆయన ద్వారానే రక్షణ వస్తుందని రాజ్యాధికారం  ఈ లోక అధికారం కన్నా బిన్నంగా ఉంటుంది.

 ఈ రాజు రాజ్యాలు గెలిచే రాజుగా రావటం లేదు. ప్రజల యొక్క మనస్సు గెలిచే రాజుగా వస్తున్నారు. మన రాజు శ్రమలు అనుభవించారు, సుఖ సంతోషాలు విడిచిపెట్టారు. ఈ రాజు అందరికంటే ముందుగా నిలబడి తన ప్రజల కోసం పోరాడతారు.

ప్రభువు స్వయంగా గాడిదను ఎన్నుకొంటున్నారు ఎందుకంటే పూర్వం రాజులు యుద్ధం చేయటానికి వెళ్ళేటప్పుడు గుర్రం మీద వెళ్లేవారు. శాంతిని నెలకొల్పేటప్పుడు గాడిదమీద వెళ్లేవారు.

గాడిద వినమ్రుని, శాంతిపరుని సూచిస్తుంది. యేసు ప్రభువు ప్రపంచానికి శాంతి ప్రదాత. ఆయన ఇహలోక సంబంధమైన రాజు కాక పరలోక సంబంధమైన రాజు. ఆయన అందరికి రాజు. ప్రజలందరి పాపలు తన మీద మోసుకొని మరణించిన గొప్ప రాజు.

సొలొమోను తన తండ్రి గాడిద మీద వచ్చారు, సింహాసనాన్ని అధిష్టించే రోజును – 1 రాజు 1: 38-41

గాడిద మీద వచ్చిన వారు - న్యాయా 10: 4, 2 సమూ 17: 23, 2 సమూ 19: 26

ఈ లోకమును తన తండ్రితో సమాధానపరచుటకు ఆయన గాడిద మీద వస్తున్నారు - ఎఫెసీ 2: 13-18

గాడిదను ప్రభువు ఎన్నుకొనుటకు కారణాలు :

1.       గాడిద బరువు మోస్తుంది - అందరి భారం మోస్తుంది

2.       గాడిద సేవ చేస్తుంది - అందరికి సేవ చేస్తుంది

3.       గాడిద శాంతికి గుర్తు

4.       గాడిద పవిత్రతకు గుర్తు- వస్తువులను జంతువులను దేవునికి సమర్పించుటకు వాడతారు కాబట్టి అవి పవిత్రమైనవి

యేసు ప్రభువు వాడిన గాడిదను ఎవ్వరు ఎన్నడూ వాడలేదు. అది పవిత్రమైనది. మనం దేవుని ప్రేమను తెలుసుకొని ఆయన కొరకు మంచి జీవితం జీవించాలి.

అప్పుడు అతను, 'యేసు, నీవు నీ రాజ్యంలోకి ప్రవేశించినపుడు నన్ను జ్ఞాపకముంచుకొనుము' అన్నాడు. యేసు అతనికి జవాబిచ్చాడు,"యేసు అతనికి జవాబిస్తూ, 'నేడే నీవు నాతో కూడా పరలోకమున ప్రవేశించెదవు, అని నీతో నిశ్చయముగా చెప్పుచున్నాను." (లూకా 23:39-43)

సందర్భం:

యేసు మరో ఇద్దరు దొంగలతో కలిసి సిలువను మోస్తూ కల్వరీకి తీసుకువెళ్లారు. అతని ప్రయాణంలో క్రీస్తు శారీరకంగా చాలా బాధపడ్డారు మరియు ఇప్పుడు శిలువపై కూడా అతను అవమానించబడ్డారు మరియు వెక్కిరించబడ్డారు. ఈ రెండవ పదం యేసు మరియు నేరాలు చేసి సిలువ వేయబడిన దొంగల మధ్య సంభాషణ. ఈ రెండవ పదం యేసు తన దయతో స్వీకరించిన ప్రార్థన అభ్యర్థన మరియు ప్రత్యేక అనుగ్రహం.

ఒక నేరస్థుడి నుండి అవమానాలు

యేసుతో పటు సిలువ వేయబడిన నేరస్తులతో ఒక నేరస్థుడు యేసును ఎగతాళి చేస్తూ, వ్యంగ్యంగా యేసును "నువ్వు క్రీస్తువి, కాదా? అప్పుడు నిన్ను నీవు రక్షించుకొని మమ్మల్ని రక్షించుము." అనెను. అతను యేసు అసమర్థతను చూపించే ఉద్దేశ్యంతో అవమానకరమైన వ్యాఖ్యలు చేస్తున్నాడు మరియు అతని అధికారాన్ని లేదా “మెస్సీయ” అనే బిరుదును ప్రశ్నిస్తున్నాడు. ఒక విధంగా మీరు మాలాగే చనిపోతున్నారు, మీలో గొప్పది ఏమీ లేదు, అతను మోసగాడు అని ఆరోపించాడు. శిలువపై కూడా, ఈ నేరస్థుడి మానసిక హింసను యేసు ఎలా అనుభవించాడో మరియు భరించాడో మనం చూస్తున్నాము. ఈ దొంగకు అపరాధ భావన లేదా పశ్చాత్తాపం లేదా వినయం లేదు. అతను యేసును తన సిలువను తప్పించుకోవడానికి ఒక మార్గంగా మాత్రమే చూశాడు కానీ అనుసరించాల్సిన నిజమైన రాజుగా గుర్తించలేదు.

The Second Word

Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.' Jesus answered him, 'I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.'(Luke 23:39-43)

The context:

Jesus was being led to the calvary carrying the cross with two other thieves. On his journey he has suffered extremely physically and now on the cross only he is insulted and mocked. The second Word is a dialogue between Jesus and thieves who were also crucified for the crimes. It is a prayer request and privilege granted by Jesus in his mercy.

Insults from one criminal

Now one criminal making fun of Jesus, sarcastically asks Jesus “ You are the Christ, aren’t you? Then save yourself and us”. He is making insulting remarks intending to show Jesus' inability and questioning his authority or title “Messiah”. in a way you are dying like us, there is nothing greater in you, accusing him of imposter. Even on the cross, we see how jesus suffered and endured this mental torture by this criminal. This thief had no feeling of guilt nor penitence nor humility. He saw Jesus only as a way to escape his cross but as a true King to be followed.

Response and Request from another Criminal

However, the second criminal was not blaspheming like the first one. Because even in that terrible situation he is not deceived by all this teasing, rather he feared God that’s why he asks “ Don’t you fear God?. He acknowledged himself, what he had done was wrong and accepted the punishment as deserving. He also understood and acknowledged that Jesus is innocent, admitting Jesus’ righteousness and as king. "Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.'" (Luke 23:42). An Important word

Remember me :

The penitent thief turned to the Lord and acknowledged his guilt, wickedness. and asked Jesus to remember him. When all deserted him, mocked and teased him, here is a dying thief, in his dark time, he acknowledges the goodness, and power of Jesus, accepting Jesus to be the son of God not imposter. His simple request prayer, “Remember me” also signifies his faith, repentance and his need for help or mercy.

As the Venerable Fulton Sheen said, “while the Good Thief looked up toward the kingdom of heaven, the bad thief looked down to earth and demanded that Jesus come down off the Cross.”

Today You'll Be with Me in Paradise - a great Privilege

"Jesus answered him, 'I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43)

Though Jesus himself was suffering, in full agony, he was merciful to the criminal. He promises to him in his love and grace, that “ you will be with me in my paradise”.

He completely forgave him and bestowed on him the greatest privilege one could receive, that is to be in communion with the Lord. because paradise signifies the heavenly abode/presence of God.

His promises represent Jesus' compassion and grace to mankind.

Jesus’response thus an important one in our lives too. He welcomed the repentant thief, no matter how grievous his offence into the kingdom and into the communion of the Father, we too hope for that communion, kingdom if we are to acknowledge Jesus.

Sometimes our faith is complicated, all that we need is to ask God to remember us and turn to the Lord acknowledging our sinfulness and situation.Therefore, we don’t need to have perfect prayer for asking favour rather when we invoke faith God’s blessings are showered upon in abundance.

And when we go through challenges, persecution, teasing, these words give us comfort and consolation that God is with us even in my darkest moments. He will not leave me abandoned. He promises with the same privilege of being with God in paradise, through the shedding of his blood he forgave the thief and is ready to forgive us today.

Let us admit our sinful situation and acknowledge Jesus the King to remember us.

Prayer: Dear Almighty God, when we cry out to you, you hear and reply to us in mercy and grace. When we ask you to remember, you promise us paradise, when we acknowledge you look on us with mercy and forgiveness. Merciful Lord, you encourage us and heal us, today, trusting in you I place my life at your feet, remember me in your kingdom, remember me as i live for your kingdom. Amen.

The Prophecy and The Fulfilment

The people of Israel, God’s chosen people due to their disobedience to God went into different exiles and scattered and were plundered.today the readings offer to those people and to us in similar situations a ray of hope of coming together.  

The Prophecy

The prophet Ezekiel foresees messianic age, where the scattered people will be united into one, all will return home. In this time and age people will give up their sinful ways and all forms of evil activities that go against God because of which they were distanced, disconnected and plagued internally but now when this time comes they will be cleansed and comforted by God. And in this age, there will be a ruler, more specially in terms of a shepherd, a descendant of David, who cares for his flock.

The Fulfilment:

 Jesus is the fulfilment of this prophecy, he is the good shepherd protecting his own, searching for the lost one, uniting everyone in his name and establishing a new covenant with his blood on the cross. Now this covenant extends to all of us, all of humanity.

The context was Jesus was becoming popular, the people are listening and following more than chief priests and pharisees. So they are afraid and concerned about their power and authority is at stake. And also it would bring problems with the Romans. So that it was better to eliminate the “problem” so that things could return to the way they were. So Caiaphas says “it is better for you that one man should die instead of the people so that the whole nation may not perish." Jesus indeed died for the people, fulfilling the prophecy of the old covenant,  not only for Israel for all humanity, through this act Jesus united everyone in his name and gave new life.

We also see at the end of the Gospel today, “ what do you think? Will he come to the festival or not?”Dear friends As we approach the Holy Week let us keep in mind he is the central character of feast, the liturgy and salvation.

Today, our lives, families are scattered by vested personal interests and live in an age normalised sinful behaviour and living. And also we are like Pharisees craving after positions of authority, power and control blinded by pride not able to pursue truth and understanding.

The Lord offers us to gather us into one and is ready to lay down his for  all of us. Let us reflect today to which side do I lean onto, to the side Jesus or to the side of sinful living (distancing God)

To those who follow Jesus, the story of persecution, misunderstanding continues today. We have to face them with certainty that Jesus is the lord and move forward like Jesus to the fulfilment of Father’s will.

Therefore the Lord will give them up, until the time when she who is to give birth has borne,Then the rest of his kindred shall return to the children of Israel.(Micah 5:2)

but God has thus brought to fulfilment what he had announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets,* that his Messiah would suffer.(Acts of the Apostles 3:18)

ఈ మొదటి పదాన్ని "క్షమాపణ పదం" అని పిలుస్తారు, ఎందుకంటే ఇది తన ప్రజల పట్ల ఉన్న దేవుని హృదయాన్ని, ముఖ్యంగా ఈ రోజు మన పట్ల వెల్లడిస్తుంది. ఆ పదం యొక్క లోతైన అర్థాన్ని ధ్యానించి అర్థం చేసుకుందాం:

The First Word

“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34

The First Word is called “the Word of Forgiveness”, as it reflects the hearts of God towards his people,especially us today. Let us reflect and understand its profound meaning:

A Compassionate Prayer

First of all, Jesus' prayer here is unselfish and compassionate. He is more concerned about other people than himself. He is praying for those who hurt him and responsible for his death on the cross.

Usually when somebody does something against us, we pray for something bad to happen to those who hurt us or those who we consider as enemies. But Jesus taught to pray for those who persecute you, he practised it in his life. This is a kind of great love Jesus possesses and invites us to possess.

Addressing to Father

The term “Father” signifies familial relationship and closeness. Therefore by beginning his prayer with calling God, the father Jesus expressed his trust, confidence and love to the father. Throughout the Gospels we see many examples of Jesus calling God, the Father. He knows at this horrific pain and suffering only God can console and deliver him.

He taught us also, to call God, Father, to establish that close proximity and relationship with God, so that without hesitation we can approach Father, as we approach our fathers here in our family.

For whom does Jesus pray to the Father?

The question here in this prayer is, who is he praying for for forgiveness and mercy? He is in fact praying for those who are responsible for his crucifixion:

For the people who mocked, accused, tortured, scourged, nailed and crucified him on the cross.

For those whom him on trail, and judged him

Especially Soldiers, Pilate, Chief priests, scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees and also for you and me, because it is because of our sins and weakness he took up our cross and death. He is praying for us all.

He defends us

Jesus prays and also defends us so that we may not receive the punishment rather find favour of forgiveness and another chance to rectify our mistakes. It shows the concern and compassion of Christ. We all know we deserve because of our mistakes but Christ looks deeper into our hearts with mercy and sees that we lack the full understanding of our sins. Jesus has made a way for forgiveness. Jesus is not establishing the probe of innocence for these people by saying “they don’t know what they are doing”. Rather he established his unending love and mercy for these people.

What Does It Mean to Forgive?

In simple terms it means to release or let go of feelings of anger towards someone and replace them with positive feelings. This is the first word and prayer of Jesus on the cross. This is perfect because the purpose and mission of the cross is forgiveness, to make us reunite and reconcile with the Father.

Through this sacrifice forgiveness is bought and

Through forgiveness we are cleansed and freed from sins.

With this freedom we can approach God to strengthen us, and for our concerns and needs.

God “Who pardons all your sins, and heals all your ills,” (Ps 103:3).

Question for reflection :

In this present time, forgiveness is a disturbing word, it has become impossible to forgive those who hurt us. It is seen as a weakness. It is easier to preach than to practice. But Jesus suffered a lot of pain: physical, mental and psychological but he bore them all. Above all he still prayed for forgiveness to his enemies. Let us question ourselves:

Are there people whom you need to forgive?

Are there people from whom you need to seek forgiveness?

From all the pain and suffering, hurts and insults, injustices and injuries let us find composure and forgive because it frees us to help move forward.

Inculcating or Ignoring

The readings of the day present to us the situation of the messengers of God, the prophet and the Son of God, Jesus. And invites to withstand believing him who gave the mission will also be equipped with strength to complete the mission.

The situation of prophet Jeremiah was very frightening and anxious. The people to whom he has delivered the message of God are stubborn and corrupt. They were not ready to accept him and his message, the message of doom but it also contained hope in God. When they could no longer bear his message they started to turn against him and plotted to kill him on account of a message of judgement from God.

All that he prophesied was the message of God, but this brought insult and reproach to him, now he is attacked and denounced by all, even his close friends abandoned him. Those who are against his message are waiting for a chance, waiting for him to make some mistake, so that they can kill and get rid of him.

Despite his scary situation, he believed and trusted in God’s protection.

He believed God will come to aid the needy,

He believed that truth and justice will prevail forever, and he knows that his life has been on the path of truth and justice.

Jesus was also treated similarly by the Pharisees and scribes, constantly trying to catch him in the violation of the laws, In his healings, with regard to taxes and forgiving situations. They were desperately Trying to catch any word that goes against the law to punish him but they could not understand him thus could not accept him because of their hardness of the hearts. In addition they could not prove him wrong neither in his words nor in his works.

Today in the Gospel, the Jew picked up stones to kill him. This is not because of the good works he performed and the words that he spoke but because of what he claims to be “the Son of God”. he indeed is the Son of God, manifested in his words and works.

Jesus did not convey the message like any other pharisee or scribe but with a conviction and authority that inspired, illuminated the hearts and minds of many. Every Word that he spoke came directly from Father in heaven.

And His works too give testimony: the lord performed great works, great miracles that no one in their circle nor pharisee nor scribes could do. He healed, he calmed the disturbed ses and souls, he multiplied and he raised the dead and so on… the greatest of all these is his resurrection. Words may convince but works motivate action and decision making. Jesus asks to believe not only in promises but also in his works.

But they have repeatedly ignored his works, words, rather misunderstood him because their focus was only eliminating him because he has become troublesome for their power and authority.

Today God continues to send messages and work miraculously in different ways especially through Eucharist and in other sacraments and communities of the faithful. The message and works of God are disturbing to the people who are stubborn, who lost a sense of justice, sharing, common good ,integrity of life and relationship with God but are consumed by self interest, grudges, anger and bitterness.

Therefore, The question for our reflection is

Am I deliberately killing or ignoring the message of God?

Am I intentionally avoiding acknowledging Jesus, the son of God?

“Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words has something to judge him: the word that I spoke, it will condemn him on the last day” ( John 12:48)

“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” ( 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
